Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 29'10" beam and a 7'1" draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Launched in July 2021 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in October 2021.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of Al Waab is an impressive showcase of modern yacht architecture. Standing out for its arrow-like foredeck and sleek lines, the yacht boasts an elongated and powerful structure. Notably, the yacht's 9.1-meter beam completes a slender hull form, which is one of the keys to understanding the yacht's design.

This slender design not only contributes to its stunning aesthetic but also offers benefits in terms of propulsion efficiency and comfort. The ability to maintain the same speed with less power is a significant advantage, resulting in smaller engines and a smaller engine room. This, in turn, means more interior space, making Al Waab a perfect blend of style and function.

The use of glass in the exterior design of Al Waab is another defining feature. Floor-to-ceiling panes line the saloon, providing breathtaking views and flooding the interior with natural light. Additionally, glass bulkheads, doors, and bulwarks enhance the sense of openness, a refreshing departure from traditional yacht design which often divides volumes into smaller blocks.

Al Waab also offers ample lounging space on the exterior. Her length affords 42 percent more exterior deck space than a typical 499GT yacht, with 286 square meters in total. From the huge beach club with its bar, armchairs, and loungers, to the three distinct exterior zones, each with their own different characters and uses, there are plenty of options for relaxation and entertainment.

The exterior space also includes a more formal dining setting on the upper deck, where up to 12 guests can be seated around a striking ceramic-lined table. The raked-back supports for the sundeck provide a natural windbreak for diners, while the sofas further back allow for open-air relaxation under the stars.

Finally, the top deck, a spacious 78-square-meter sundeck, provides yet another feel. With loose furniture, including sun loungers and elegant sofas and armchairs, this space can easily be transformed into a dance floor or a mingling space for guests. This versatility, along with the well-considered plan for crew circulation, ensures a seamless and luxurious experience for all on board.

Yachts are getting longer and wider, but owners still want to stay below the 500GT mark

Interior Design

Al Waab's interior design is a striking blend of elegance and simplicity, offering an environment that's both welcoming and soothing. The design features an architectural quality with a warm, informal feel and abundant use of glass. This not only includes the nearly floor-to-ceiling panes that line the saloon, but also the glass bulkheads, doors, glass-lined stairwell, and glass bulwarks. This extensive use of glass fills the yacht with natural light, creating an open, airy feel and offering unobstructed views of the surrounding seascape.

The interior is adorned with sustainable bamboo, a material which bears a resemblance to teak. This material is extensively used in the yacht's paneling, including the ceilings, walls, and some cabinetry. The bamboo adds a natural, organic touch to the interiors, and its sustainability aligns with the growing trend towards environmentally friendly yacht design.

The upholstery features muted grays, browns, and beiges sourced from luxury brands like Hermès - colors that can be described as "friendly". This color scheme is soothing and neutral, allowing the beautiful woodwork and the stunning views through the extensive glass to take center stage.

An unusual feature of Al Waab's interior design is the porcelain tiles on the floor of the main saloon. This choice was driven by the owner's desire for practicality – the ability to come inside the yacht with shoes on. It's a subtle detail, but one that speaks to the personalized nature of Al Waab's design.

The yacht's lighting design is also noteworthy. The owner specifically requested no direct light, so the design team at Vripack utilized indirect lighting instead. This type of lighting casts a soft glow throughout the yacht's interior, highlighting the beautiful materials used in its construction and creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.

The open staircase, running from the lower deck to the upper deck, is another key element of the yacht's interior design. The staircase features floating steps and glass sides, and is bordered by a wall of glittering, gold-studded acrylic that spans a full three decks high, adding a sense of grandeur and luxury.

Accommodation

Al Waab offers accommodation for up to 18 guests in 7 suites comprising an owners suite and six guest cabins.

The owner's suite occupies a privileged position located forward on the upper deck, boasting unobstructed views and a degree of privacy. The dressing room and bathroom have been ingeniously positioned down a flight of stairs, where they have the space for truly luxurious dimensions. This innovative configuration allows the suite to make the most of the available space, without compromising on comfort or luxury.

Among the six guest cabins below, the rear VIP stands out due to innovative design feature. It is formed by combining two single cabins into one by sliding away a partition wall and recessed into dedicated housing. This allows for the single beds in each cabin to be mounted on runners and pushed together to form a large double bed. As a result, the two cabins can be converted into a single, grand VIP suite with dual bathrooms, providing guests with an opulent and spacious accommodation option.

Aft of the engine room, the yacht boasts a gym area that seamlessly connects to the beach club or the saloon above via a flight of steps. This area, blessed with natural light through large glass panels, can also be transformed into an additional cabin equipped with a sofa bed, increasing the yacht's accommodation capabilities. In this setup, the gym's dayhead serves as a shower room.

Beyond guest accommodation, Al Waab also offers a thoughtfully designed crew living space for 10 crew. The yacht's layout ensures that each area of the boat is in close proximity, allowing for swift service delivery and smooth operations. A dedicated crew staircase facilitates unobtrusive crew movement, ensuring that guests can fully immerse themselves in the luxury experience without any disturbances.

Performance & Capabilities

Al Waab is powered by twin 522kW Caterpillar C18s engines, giving it an impressive cruising speed of 12 knots. During sea trials, she surpassed expectations by reaching a top speed of 14.5 knots. This speed was achieved with significantly less power consumption compared to other yachts in its class, highlighting the efficiency of its slender hull design. The smaller engines also mean a more compact engine room, which in turn allows for more interior space.

Fuel efficiency is another area where Al Waab shines. The yacht consumes approximately 35 percent less fuel than comparable 499GT yachts, a significant achievement considering its steel-hulled construction. This is a key advantage for potential buyers, as it not only reduces operational costs, but also demonstrates Alia Yachts' commitment to sustainability.

In terms of range, Al Waab delivers exceptional performance as well. While specific figures are not available, it's clear that the yacht's fuel efficiency and powerful engines allow it to cover significant distances.

The yacht's stabilizers also ensure a smooth and comfortable ride, even in rough sea conditions. This is particularly important for yachts of this size as it minimizes the risk of seasickness for passengers and enhances the overall onboard experience.

Amenities

In addition, Al Waab features a beach club where those on board can enjoy unwinding close to the water. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort.
