Design & Construction
Designed around a fast displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 14.6m beam and a 3.95m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 2,926 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
Construction started in late 2015 with the keel laid under the project name 'Project Shark'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. She was delivered to her owners in July 2018.
Exterior Design
Designer Luiz De Basto drew inspiration from hammerhead sharks, resulting in DAR's aggressive yet streamlined exterior design. The striking contrast between the dark glass hull and the white balconies is truly eye-catching. The futuristic superstructure boasts almost 400sq/m of glass seamlessly glued to the main deck and sundeck, eliminating mechanical fasteners. The glass reduces glare and provides exceptional privacy from the outside world, even with the lights on. The designer wished to create a superyacht "that concealed its volume and decks within a shapely glass envelope that would give its owners what they value above all else: privacy".
The yacht carries approximately 22 tonnes of exterior glass. In the superstructure above the main deck, there are 186 windows, of which 112 are bent in one direction and 28 are double curved.
Notably, upon its launch, the yacht earned a Judge's Commendation for Best Technical Achievement at the Boat International Design and Innovation Awards.
Interior Design
Valentina Zannier of the Italian studio Nuvolari Lenard designed a light, bright interior drawing inspiration from nature and taking advantage of the light streaming in from the floor-to-ceiling windows throughout. Motifs of fish, leaves, olive trees, blossoms, and waves are integrated into various materials, from paint to plaster, carved leather, engraved glass, and embroideries onboard the yacht.
The corridor walls are adorned with oak trees, carefully sculpted from plaster using a spatula technique, then painted by hand, resulting in a remarkable 3D effect providing depth within the space.
In alignment with the yacht owner's preferences, wood is employed judiciously, favoring light-hued timber with unique finishes—sycamore dyed grey and maple veneer steamed and bent into elegant curves. A touch of dark veneer is strategically used to contrast with limed ash. A school of fish in Venetian plaster gracefully swims along the walls, accentuating the central staircase and surrounding the glass elevator.
Dar features a luxurious interior adorned with a rich variety of materials. There are 120 different fabrics and 24 saddle leathers carefully chosen to enhance the ambiance of the yacht.
Accommodation
Dar offers accommodation for up to 14 guests in seven suites, with guest accommodation towards the aft of the yacht. The flexible layout consists of two VIP cabins and four double cabins. Cabins feature a cohesive color palette in neutral tones of cream and ecru. Velvet is used to create texture.
The entire upper deck of Dar is dedicated to the owner's private use, where balconies feature full-height windows flooding the spacious suite with natural light. The deck has a private forward-facing jacuzzi.
The yacht can carry up to 31 crew onboard to ensure operational effectiveness and a relaxed luxury yacht experience for guests.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (20V 4000 M73L) 20-cylinder 4,828hp engines running at 2050rpm, motor yacht Dar is capable of reaching a top speed of 20 knots, and comfortably cruises at 16 knots. With her 278,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 4,500 nautical miles at 16 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.
Wellness
A large hammam and sauna, spa, massage room, and beauty salon are available for guest relaxation. The weights in the gym are custom-made. The upper deck freshwater pool features a counter current.
Amenities
The yacht is well equipped for water sports and activities, including a Zorb Sphere for a person to step into and roll on the water, an inflatable pool, a Liquid Force magic carpet, and a 15m slide.
On deck, a 1.6m deep oval basin with a waterfall is a stylish feature; the waterfall splashes into the pool from the deck above, not only creating ambiance but also providing privacy. The owner's deck has a completely private spa pool.
A staircase adorned with a Venetian plaster wall depicting a school of fish gracefully wraps around a central elevator. The elevator itself is finished in antiqued bronze, and its flooring features a decorative glass panel. This central feature provides convenient access throughout the yacht and has a capacity for six guests.
