Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement ice class steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 12.7m beam and a 3.35m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 1,546 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in mid 2017 with the keel laid under the project name 'King Shark'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in January 2021 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in May 2021.

Exterior Design

Polestar's exterior design is inspired by her explorer capabilities, a clear evidence of Rossinavi's expertise. The yacht's hull height and bow have been carefully crafted to navigate in all conditions, with a tall, elongated bow serving as not only a technical requirement but also a crucial aesthetic feature to balance the proportions of the yacht. The straight, tall bulwarks form a splash guard edge, ensuring dry decks even in adverse cruising conditions.

The owner's requirement for a yacht with a slender silhouette and eye-catching exterior lines was meticulously fulfilled by Team for Design. The superstructure showcases a dynamic appeal, flowing decks, and unique identifying features. The team drew a harmonious exterior that, upon closer inspection, is composed of sharp angles that catch the light and add interest.

One of the most captivating aspects of Polestar's exterior is the stern design. The aft ends of each deck overhang slightly, painted grey to match the radar arch and transom. This design choice not only satisfies the owner’s request for a recognizable yet unpretentious stern, but also serves a functional purpose. Each overhang forms part of the ceiling for the exterior deck spaces below and conceals lighting that illuminates the yacht at night.

The main deck holds an exquisite 6m infinity pool, sun pods, and sofas under cover, offering an epitome of outdoor living. One deck up, a dining area for 12 and additional seating in the sun can be found. The exterior spaces are finished with pieces from top brands like Paola Lenti, Summit, Jim Thompson, Hermes, Mariaflora, and Ralph Lauren, contributing to the overall luxurious appeal of the yacht.

Polestar is a true exemplification of engineering brilliance, sophisticated design, and exceptional seafaring capabilities. Its combination of long-range comfort, silent navigation, and high performance makes it a leading choice for global voyages.

Interior Design

Stepping aboard the Polestar, one is immediately immersed in an ambiance of timeless elegance and sophistication. The interior design, masterfully executed by Enrico Gobbi of Team for Design, reflects a keen understanding of the owner's desire for a balance between classic and modern aesthetics. The result is an interior that exudes warm comfort and style, providing an inviting contrast to the potentially icy climes beyond the yacht's windows.

The color scheme throughout the yacht is understated and refined, characterized by soft grays and whites, glossy dark wood furniture, and subtle pops of color. The occasional whisper of pale green in carefully selected pieces such as glass lamps and artwork adds a gentle touch of vibrancy to the serene palette.

The interior is far from bland, however. It is characterized by Art Deco-inspired furnishings that add a touch of glamour to the yacht's spaces. A distinct highlight is the array of dazzling crystal chandeliers, which cast a warm, shimmering light throughout the yacht's interior.

The owner's wish for a high degree of customization is evident in almost every element of the yacht's design. Most of the furniture has been custom-designed by Gobbi's team, and is complemented by contemporary loose furniture, decorative lighting, and fabrics sourced from top Italian and international brands, such as Armani/Casa, Baker, Donghia, Rubelli, and Porta Romana.

The main saloon is a visual treat, featuring a stunning waterfall flowing down a wall of backlit onyx. The waterfall is flanked by curved walls adorned with vertical strips of crystal, a design element inspired by the Baccarat Hotel in Manhattan. This space is free of televisions, creating a peaceful and relaxing environment for social gatherings.

A key feature of the yacht's design is the spa and wellness center, located in a privileged area of the yacht with panoramic views. The space includes a gym and yoga room with a large opening terrace on one side, and a hammam, massage room, and full bathroom on the other. The wellness area is decorated with fabric walls, marble, and glass mosaics, creating a soothing environment for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Each deck on the Polestar is designed with a 'wow point' to impress guests. These include the stunning waterfall in the main saloon, the vertical chandelier made of different-sized crystal rings in the staircase, and the onyx wall in a wave formation on the forward wall of the owner's deck lounge.

Accommodation

The accommodation on board Polestar is nothing short of unparalleled luxury. Designed for extended world-cruising, this 70-meter yacht offers the perfect mix of comfort and functionality.

Polestar can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 elegantly designed cabins, ensuring a relaxed luxury yacht experience. The master suite, located on the owner's dedicated deck, is a true testament to opulence. It features a forward-facing bedroom with panoramic views, a walk-in wardrobe, and dual en suite bathrooms. A private forward terrace with a waterfall feature, seating, and chaise lounges provides the perfect spot for the owner to enjoy the expansive views ahead.

In addition to the master suite, there is a VIP suite on the owner's deck which can be assigned to a guest. The remaining four guest cabins are beautifully appointed, offering maximum comfort and privacy for guests on board. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, ensuring that each guest experiences the highest level of luxury and comfort.

The crew accommodation on Polestar has been designed with the same attention to detail and high-quality finishes as the guest areas. The yacht can comfortably house a crew of 17, ensuring that the highest level of service is delivered to guests at all times. The crew quarters offer ample storage and living space, ensuring a comfortable environment for the crew while they are on board.

Performance & Capabilities

Dedicated to exceptional performance, the Polestar yacht is powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system with the Azipull system. This innovative system operates with variable-speed generators, optimizing fuel efficiency in all sea conditions. The result is a yacht that can reach an impressive top speed of 18 knots while cruising at 12 knots, exceeding the initial contracted speed of 17 knots.

In terms of range, Polestar is built for endurance. The superyacht can travel more than 6,500 nautical miles at a reduced speed of 12 knots. This extensive range, combined with her ice-classed hull, allows the Polestar to navigate the world, including the icy waters of the Arctic and Antarctica.

Underpinning Polestar's remarkable performance is her full-displacement hull, which is equipped with a bulb resulting from an iterative process of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) optimization. This advanced design feature aims to reduce resistance and dampen the pitching motions of the oncoming sea, enhancing seakeeping abilities. CFD calculations, together with tank tests of the Kongsberg Azipull propulsion, have been carried out to improve performance.

One of the key focus areas for the owner was the yacht's stability and quietness during navigation. Rossinavi's proprietary Zero Noise technology is integrated into the yacht's design, resulting in a vessel that is exceptionally silent and pleasant while underway.

Furthermore, Polestar meets the requirements of Class II of the Finnish-Swedish Ice Class rules. This includes a reinforced forward quarter of the hull and structural reinforcements for the pods and propellers. The sea chests have also been specifically designed for navigation in icy waters, featuring two different de-icing systems, one of which can harness hot water from the engines.

Polestar effectively brings to life the owner's vision for a yacht that combines timeless elegance, comfort, and personalized luxury. This is a yacht designed not just for travel, but for living and enjoying every moment on the sea.

Amenities

A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. A sumptuous cinema suite allows for movie nights at sea and a swim platform is on hand for guests looking to cool off in the sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. The sundeck is the social hub of the yacht, with a deck jacuzzi for cooling off and an inviting spread of sunpads.
