One of the most eagerly anticipated deliveries of the year has taken place with Lloyd Werft’s 140m (459ft) superyacht SOLARIS being handed over to her new owner.
Fittingly, such a high-profile yacht is rumored to have a high-profile owner, with Roman Abramovich reputed to have added the eight-deck superyacht to his growing portfolio of yachts.
Projects and Sales Director of the shipyard, Friedrich Norden was excited to see the culmination of a number of years work, saying: “We are very proud that we have mastered this challenge. In many respects Solaris is a masterpiece. A number of very individual demands, some of them never experienced before in yacht building, have been incorporated into this project.”
Whilst the project has been shrouded in secrecy, certain details were revealed when she was captured undertaking her sea trials in March. We know she sports an aft glass-bottomed pool, two beach clubs, an expansive swim platform and pronounced wing stations on either side.
She also features over 2,000 square meters (185 sq. ft) of glass in her floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which includes the largest panes ever used in the luxury yacht industry. Mega yacht SOLARIS also has the largest ABB Azipod® system ever installed on a private yacht.
The 1,101GT superyacht is the debut of Australian industrial designer Marc Newson, and he has put his stamp on the design with a series of clean but robust lines and a distinct wraparound mast.
Managing Director of the shipyard Carsten Sippel, added, “Highly skilled personnel working closely as a team is needed to build a yacht like this. We are extremely proud to have produced such a tailor-made yacht.”
World's Largest Yachts
Builder Lloyd Werft is predominantly known for building cruise ships, although its previous foray into the world of superyachts was a sizeable one, 115m (377ft) superyacht LUNA, built in 2010.
With their keels being laid just six months apart, superyacht SOLARIS takes her place behind 142m (466ft) superyacht NORD as the biggest build of 2021 and is comfortably one of the world's biggest yachts.
Boasting an impressive Gross Tonnage of 11,247GT, the super yacht SOLARIS has earned a place in the newly revised YachtBuyer YB100 Largest Yachts by GT ranking, thanks to her significant internal volume. Contrasting the GT of despite superyacht SOLARIS and superyacht NORD's similar length, Solaris has an extra 10% more usable space for guests and crew to enjoy.
Positioned 11th in the YB100, superyacht SOLARIS' GT improves on her Top 100 placement, which is based on length, by seven places. And superyacht NORD occupies the 13th position in the YB100, elevating one rank above her placement in the Top 100.
