Feadship powers towards carbon neutrality after groundbreaking milestone

Feadship has received an agreement in principle from Lloyds Registry for a brand new ‘agnostic’ fuel system.

Pushing forward under the superyacht concept PURE, which was announced in 2021, the new fuel system will be constructed to be compatible with not just modern-day fuels, but also those of the future.

Working to help achieve a more sustainable industry, Feadship has reaffirmed its goal to build yachts, and indeed superyachts, in the most eco-friendly way possible.

Achieving the second stage of its roadmap to building an environmentally friendly carbon-neutral superyacht by 2030, the 81.75m (268.2ft) concept PURE takes an exciting step forward as the Lloyd Registry provides an agreement in principle.

Besides meeting the growing desire of our clients for carbon neutrality, it will help to minimize the environmental impact of our yachts wherever they may cruise in the world.

Stating that the concepts coming from the R&D departments will also roll out to other future Feadship yachts for sale, the agnostic fuel system in question proposes to hold both non-fossil, paraffinic fuels, such as HVO, SAF and e-diesel, plus alcoholic fuels like e-methanol or ethanol at full capacity.

Moving forwards from the completed milestone, Feadship now looks to integrate both single and dual fuel engines into upcoming projects to allow all Owners the flexibility to make the most of the newly produced fuels, replacing the traditional fossil fuels.

Due to be tested using the Yacht Environmental Transparency Index (YETI) tool, the installations will be monitored for their overall efficiency as well as looking in more detail at fuel consumption rates and emissions.

No waiting around, Feadship now continues on its roadmap to carbon neutrality with the third step that involves the integration of fuel cell technology that the Feadship R&D department anticipates arriving at the latter end of the decade.
