Royal Huisman to launch record-breaking 58.5m superyacht PHI

The superyacht PHI is the longest motor yacht yet in the sub 500GT category and will become the Dutch builder’s largest motor yacht upon her launch.

Royal Huisman has released more photos of its 58.5m (192ft) superyacht PHI, after she was unveiled at its Vollenhove facility in the Netherlands ahead of her much anticipated launch.

The images show the sleek lines of her menacing hull which takes its inspiration from the hood of a cobra. The specially developed Van Oossanen Fast Displacement XL hull form allows the yacht to be long and sleek, but remain under the 500GT mark, making motor yacht PHI ‘by far’ the longest motor yacht in the sub 500GT category.

The backstory behind the superyacht is almost as intriguing as the styling. The exteriors come from the drawing board of Cor D. Rover, whilst the interiors are from Lawson Robb. They have been developed after many in-depth conversations with the Owner over a period of years and all relate to the Golden Ratio, a formula known as Phi. It is this formula that governs the continuation of dimensions and shapes in natural proportions throughout the design.

Whilst much of motor yacht PHI’s interior design and styling are still under wraps, it has previously been revealed she has an organic feeling with connections to the natural world in her layout and design. In fact, her deck levels are focused on three themes: the galaxy, the ocean surface and the underwater world.

We do know she will feature Cor D. Rover’s patented DEPP swimming pool, an infinite wine cellar and be able to accommodate 12 guests across six cabins.

Superyacht PHI is scheduled for delivery later this year and will be supported by a matching 36m (118ft) shadow vessel, with the same design team behind it and constructed at Alia Yachts. With Royal Huisman well known for building sailing yachts, including 90m (295ft) sail yacht ATHENA and 81m (265.7ft) sail yacht SEA EAGLE II, PHI will become the largest motor yacht built by the Dutch yard on her launch.

PHI is not the only sizable project Royal Huisman is involved with at the moment, at the end of last year it unveiled sportsfisher project 406 which, at 52m (170.6ft), will be the world’s largest true sportfisher yacht upon her planned delivery in 2023.
