Sanlorenzo launches holographic Smart Helmet

The new piece of technology, which will become standard on all Sanlorenzo superyachts, uses cutting edge technology to allow real life interaction with Sanlorenzo service technicians.

Sanlorenzo has unveiled a pioneering new piece of holographic technology that will allow engineers and technicians onboard its superyachts to interact in real time with its Service Team when they need assistance.

The new Smart Helmet is fitted with an 8mp 1080p video camera, four visible light cameras and two infrared cameras and allows a user onboard a superyacht to transmit what they see via a video call to a remote service technician, all in high definition.

The service technician can also share images, videos and technical diagrams with the user to help resolve any problems. In turn, the user of the Smart Helmet can interact with information they have been sent, which is projected onto the Smart Helmet display in the form of holograms, by moving them from the direct field of view, or highlighting particular areas.

Any photos, videos or other information shared is kept in an archive that can be used for future reference.

Sanlorenzo is introducing the new piece of technology as standard equipment on its superyachts later this year. It will be assigned to the Captain or Chief Engineer, who will be given a short training course on how to use it by a Sanlorenzo technician directly on board the yacht.

This cutting-edge piece of technology has been introduced as the Italian yacht continues to consolidate its position at the forefront of the superyacht industry. Last year alone it delivered 35 yachts with an average length of 32.4m (106ft), with a further nine already handed over this year, including its first 62Steel superyacht the 61.5m (201.8ft) Cloud 9.

According to YachtBuyer intelligence, Sanlorenzo is set to build over 50 superyachts in the next 24 months. This includes the first hull of its 57Steel line which it claims will feature ‘extraordinary volumes’, more than double that of its 52Steel which is just 5m (16.4ft) shorter.
