Vanquish Yachts to build custom tender for superyacht project

Dutch shipyard Vanquish Yachts has announced they are building a 24m (78’) custom tender for the 60m (196’) ‘Project SkyFall’ superyacht that is currently under construction at Heesen Yachts.

The eye catching tender, called VQ80 Sportfish, will serve as a chase boat for 'Project SkyFall' and will come complete with a stylized tuna tower and spacious stern cockpit to provide the best possible environment for the owner who is an avid fisherman.

The VQ80 Sportfish has interior and exterior design by Guido de Groot, and naval architecture by Studio Delta. It is described as a hybrid between a sportfish superyacht and a VQ powerboat, combining “imposing looks, breakneck speed and high-tech sophistication” according to Vanquish Yachts.

The client has set out to create a very special sportfish that resembles nothing else on the water today. We had to play a lot with the proportions in order to get the height right, especially with the tuna tower on top, part of which has been integrated into the superstructure. The same applies to the spacious stern fishing cockpit, the upper line of which flows over the hull and blends with the engine room and cabin windows to generate a unified design signature as well as a true sense of swiftness."

The sleek lines of the exterior are complemented by an elegant and sporty interior which includes a large salon with outdoor seating for guests to sit and relax. There is accommodation for six guests in a forward owner’s suite and two double guest cabins, plus crew accommodation for two.

Garmin gears and hydraulic doors that open both towards the port and starboard to safely haul the fish into the hold and an added suspension effect thanks to Petestep defectors, all contribute to fulfilling the owners request for “a chase-standard boat with the best possible fishing cockpit”.

This bespoke tender is powered by next-generation Caterpillar C32 Marine engines with 4,800 hp in total. The vessel is expected to reach a speed of 51 knots in light load conditions, cruise with a speed of 40 to 50 knots and cover a range of 330 nautical miles at 48 to 50 knots.

Both VQ80 Sportfish and ‘Project SkyFall’ - the superyacht it will act as a chase boat for - are due for delivery in 2023.

‘Project SkyFall’ is a fully custom superyacht that is being built by Heesen. They referred to it as the “most powerful project Heesen has created to date” with it drawing on 22,000 hp and having a top speed of 37 knots.

The 59m (194') sportsfisherman is, like the VQ80, geared towards offshore fishing, and has a fishing cockpit located on the stern.

She can accommodate ten guests. There are four guest cabins on the lower deck and an owner’s master suite that includes a private terrace with an alfresco lounge and whirlpool tub, on the bridge deck.

She also has a beach club with wellness area, and a media room with a cinema and games table.

‘Project Skyfall’ is one of eleven 50m (194') plus superyachts Heesen has planned over the next three years. The largest of which is the 80.7m (265') COSMOS that is set for delivery in 2022. Whilst Heesen do complete one-off bespoke boats most are built as semi-custom projects. To find out more view all Heesen yachts for sale.
