Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and superstructure she features a 8m beam and a 3.6m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 270 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

The exterior of Istros exudes a rare blend of classic elegance and modern innovation, a testament to the yacht's prestigious heritage and the visionary refit that has breathed new life into her. Originally constructed in 1954, Istros was a marvel of its time, boasting sleek lines and a superior build quality that set her apart in the luxury yacht sphere. This grandeur persists through her recent transformation, ensuring her aesthetic remains true to her iconic roots while seamlessly incorporating contemporary advancements.

The silhouette of Istros retains her timeless allure, with a narrow beam that accentuates her graceful profile. The yacht's curves, a characteristic hallmark of her design, have been meticulously preserved during the refit process. The ship's exterior, once defined by its riveted steel hull, underwent extensive restoration to address areas weakened by corrosion, particularly around the window and door frames. In a move that marries nostalgia with necessity, the original superstructure was replaced with a new, lighter aluminium one, designed to uphold the integrity of the yacht's classic lines.

In a nod to the vessel's storied past, the refit team conducted a full 3D scan of the original structure, ensuring that the new superstructure would replicate the yacht's historic aesthetic while meeting modern standards of safety and performance. The result is a superstructure that is slightly higher, with a bulwark that has been discreetly raised to maintain the yacht's original proportions. This painstaking attention to detail ensures that Istros's lines remain as captivating as ever, with a silhouette that is instantly recognizable and yet undeniably enhanced.

The yacht's masts, too, have been reimagined. Originally crafted from teak, they have been replaced with aluminium structures that are enveloped in a special wrap designed to imitate the appearance and texture of the original material. This innovative approach extends to the watertight doors, which also feature the teak-like wrap, blending the practical with the traditional in a seamless fashion.

Istros's funnel, a distinguishing feature of many classic yachts, continues to serve its original purpose, albeit in a modern context. Housing clean exhaust from a state-of-the-art Capstone microturbine, the funnel stands as a functional piece of the yacht's history, updated to meet contemporary environmental standards.

The yacht's exterior spaces have been thoughtfully curated to allow for the utmost enjoyment of the maritime lifestyle. The outdoor furniture, crafted from Corian, presents a sleek and modern aesthetic, while an ingenious fastening system accounts for the yacht's camber, ensuring stability and ease of use. Foldable deck chairs combine teak, stainless steel, and linen, offering guests comfort and elegance as they bask in the surroundings of the Mediterranean or any picturesque locale.

Every aspect of Istros's renovation, from the modern powerplant to the meticulously redesigned superstructure, has been thoughtfully executed to ensure that her performance and mechanical capabilities meet the highest standards of luxury yachting today.

Interior Design

Designed with a Scandinavian sensibility, the interior features minimal lines that maintain warmth and a welcoming atmosphere. The design ethos was to create an environment reminiscent of a serene beach house, offering an uncluttered and practical space that feels both fresh and crisp. White bulkheads and ceilings provide a bright and airy ambiance, perfectly complementing the oiled teak floors and dark stained spruce details that add depth and richness to the overall aesthetic.

Touches of color are introduced selectively through throw pillows and accessories, injecting personality and vibrancy into the living areas. The furnishings are a testament to craftsmanship and innovation, with nearly all the pieces custom-created in collaboration with Belgian furniture maker Reul Frères. The result is a collection of stylish, unique items that enhance the yacht's interior beauty while providing exceptional comfort and functionality.

On the main deck, the galley is strategically accessible to the crew, ensuring seamless service. It is fully equipped to deliver high-quality meals and drinks, reinforcing the yacht's charter-friendly configuration. Attention to material choice ensures that all surfaces are easy to maintain, a crucial consideration for a vessel that is both a home and a luxury charter yacht.

The pilothouse stands out with its traditional teak wheel, a nostalgic nod to Istros' rich history, now ingeniously integrated to function with modern navigation electronics. The contrast between the classic wheel and the otherwise contemporary white pilothouse is a delightful juxtaposition that encapsulates the yacht's blend of tradition and modernity.

Accommodation

Istros is designed to accommodate up to twelve guests in sublime comfort, offering a selection of six elegantly appointed staterooms. The owner's suite, often referred to as the master cabin, is a haven of tranquility and opulence. Boasting generous proportions, this cabin provides the yacht's discerning owner with a private retreat that encapsulates the essence of luxury yachting. Details of the owner's suite reflect the meticulous attention to style and comfort, ensuring an unforgettable stay.

The guest cabins are no less impressive, each crafted to uphold the same standard of luxury as the owner's suite. The configuration typically includes a blend of double and twin cabins, providing versatile accommodations to suit a variety of guest arrangements. Every cabin is a private sanctuary, complete with state-of-the-art amenities and sumptuous furnishings, allowing for peaceful relaxation after a day of ocean adventure. The children's cabin, part of a two-cabin suite in the aft section of the yacht, is furnished with bunk beds to delight the adventurous spirit of younger guests.

Crew accommodations on Istros are equally well-conceived, ensuring that the professional crew of up to 10 can maintain the highest standards of service while enjoying their own comfortable living spaces. The design of the crew quarters reflects a profound understanding of the importance of a well-rested and contented team, essential for delivering the exceptional service that guests aboard Istros will undoubtedly come to expect.

Performance & Capabilities

Istros's original engines, while historically significant, were not suited to the demands of a modern charter yacht. In their place, Istros has been repowered with two C18 Caterpillar engines, known for their fuel efficiency and robust performance. The C18 engines are a significant upgrade from the original propulsion system, offering a modern touch to the classic yacht. Weighing only 2 tonnes each, along with the gearbox, they are significantly lighter than the original 36-tonne engines, thus requiring the addition of substantial lead ballast to maintain the yacht's stability.

Throughout Istros's refit, the objective was clear: to create a yacht that honors her history while exceeding modern performance standards. The incorporation of a Capstone microturbine, which serves as a clean and efficient power source, also embodies this ethos, providing power for the yacht's contemporary systems while minimizing environmental impact.

Throughout Istros, the interior design is a celebration of the yacht's legacy, reimagined for contemporary living. It stands as a testament to the possibility of creating a space that is both modern and respectful of its historical essence, offering an unparalleled experience on the water for guests and owners alike.
