The multi-award winning 70m motor yacht Joy was delivered to her owners in 2016 by Dutch shipyard Feadship. Her naval architecture and exterior design comes from the drawing boards of Bannenberg & Rowell, while Studio Indigo is responsible for her interior design.

Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 11.5m beam and a 4.8m draft. The yacht is built over 5 decks with an internal volume of 1,100 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Launched in May 2016 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in June 2016.
Exterior Design
On first glance, this 70-meter superyacht defies conventional design norms, with an exterior that looks as if it has been carved rather than constructed. Bannenberg & Rowell has pulled off a magic trick with this breathtaking yacht, making it feel expansive yet intimate.
The owner's vision of a yacht that was "progressive and not afraid of challenging convention" is realized through Joy's distinctive superstructure and the generous decking. The decks have been exaggerated to allow for comfortable walking two abreast down the ample side decks. The entirety of the deck is protected by the high bulwarks and overhang of the deck above. The owner's deck, or the "promenade deck," allows for an uninterrupted stroll around the entire superstructure, all on one level. Feadship claims there's more teak decking on Joy than on any other comparable superyacht.
The yacht's sleek lines and elegant stance on the water are a result of a meticulous design process. Starting off as a 50-meter concept, Joy grew to 63 meters and finally to its current 70 meters, with the owner requesting a longer prow for visual balance and to provide a large terrace forward of his suite. The resulting design not only carries a sense of grandeur, but also offers expansive outside spaces that maintain a close relationship with the ocean surroundings.
One of the most striking features of Joy's exterior design is its superstructure, where the edges have been chamfered to effectively raise the external deckheads, both around the side walkways and the overhanging aft decks. This innovative design approach enhances the outlook from every internal space, creating a beautiful harmony between the indoor and outdoor areas.
Joy's exterior design also incorporates an array of impressive features for leisure and entertainment. The rear of the bridge deck houses a glass-walled gym, providing an unparalleled workout experience. The gym, treated as a hybrid area both inside and outside, opens up to a sun deck and pool, creating an exclusive perch at the top of the yacht. The main and upper decks both feature "winter gardens" that can be closed off with glass, allowing for a seamless transition from the outside to the inside.
Interior Design
The interior of the yacht 'Joy' is a testimony to the innovative spirit and bold vision of her owner. It was fashioned by the London-based Studio Indigo. Led by Mike Fisher, the team was tasked with creating an interior that was unique, non-traditional and evoked a sense of comfort and contentment, steering clear of clichéd designs that would age with time.
The result is an interior that can be described as 'vintage without being overtly fashionable'. It reflects the young, energetic and visionary nature of the owner and his wife who look to the future rather than the past.
One of the standout features of Joy's interior is the central cantilevered staircase that winds up from the lower deck around a lift shaft. This architectural marvel allows you to ascend on handwoven carpeted pads past windows, beautiful eglomisé panels made by DKT Artworks, and oak marquetry.
In the pursuit of a design that seamlessly blends the exterior and interior, Studio Indigo faced the challenge of managing the interface between the two. To make the exteriors feel like an extension of the interior spaces, the team used a variety of finishes and textiles along with the styling of furniture. Furthermore, each living area boasts windows that look out onto the wide walkways, creating an illusion of space.
The main and upper saloons, fitted with carpets that invite you to walk barefoot, draw you into the comfortable interior. The seating in the main saloon is low and comfortable, and an Irish whiskey bar to starboard, made in the UK by Silverlining, keeps things social. The upper deck saloon, on the other hand, is a more family-oriented area.
Accommodation
The yacht can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests, offering a range of cabins to suit all needs. At the heart of Joy is the owner’s deck, providing an exclusive private area for the owner. This level includes a master suite, offering an unprecedented level of comfort and privacy. This suite benefits from a 270-degree panoramic view, thanks to glass revealers built into the lowered bulkhead. The decorative style of this cabin was inspired by a tactile Yastik cushion, introducing a unique, personal touch to the space.
In addition to the owner’s suite, the owner’s deck hosts a pair of double cabins for children, ensuring a cozy family atmosphere. These cabins, like all areas aboard Joy, benefit from the design expertise of London-based Studio Indigo, which used more than 250 finishes to give each area its unique character.
The accommodation does not end there. A VIP cabin and additional cabins on the main and upper decks offer ample space for guests. Each cabin is designed to be an experience in itself, with diverse materials and patterns creating memorable spaces filled with color and texture.
For the crew, Joy has also been designed with comfort in mind. Cabins are provided for up to 19 staff, ensuring that they can rest and recharge in a dedicated space.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (12V4000M53) 1,851hp engines running at 1800rpm, motor yacht Joy is capable of reaching a top speed of 16 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots. With her 100,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 4,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.
Amenities
The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Joy also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
