Bannenberg & Rowell unveils 50m Project Isola concept

The superyacht design concept was conceived during and inspired by the lockdown period, designed for escape and combining a series of private and communal spaces.

British design studio Bannenberg & Rowell has unveiled its 50m (164ft) superyacht concept Project Isola.

Devised in collaboration with Dutch architects Azure, the sub-500 GT motor yacht takes its name from the Italian word for island with a nod towards the unusual conditions in which the concept came about.

“Think of her as an island for current times, carefully conceived,” the designers said in a statement. “While the rest of the world has been locked down, the team has been hard at work - striving to conceive a project which meets the optimum length and space requirements while steering clear of the 500GT threshold. Enter Project Isola.”

Bannenberg & Rowell have worked with Azure before, namely on the Dynamiq-built JETSETTER, and the Dutch architects have future-proofed Project Isola with a hybrid propulsion system, highly-efficient hull form and optimized performance throughout.

Project Isola can accommodate up to 12 guests across six staterooms made up of an Owner’s suite and five guest cabins and the concept combines what the designers call “spaces to be private, and spaces to be with friends and family.”

Her main deck has an infinity pool with a lounging area facing it and also sports a streamlined profile with an elongated aft which can accommodate a 9m (29.5ft) tender.

Bannenberg & Rowell has a pedigree few designers can match in the superyachting world and its award-winning portfolio includes many groundbreaking yachts. For instance its innovative work on the 70m (230ft) superyacht JOY, which included a double-entry beach club and air-conditioned winter gardens, saw the Feadship yacht winning multiple awards.

Azure Naval Architects has also worked on some renowned projects in recent years including collaborating with Damen Yachting on its acclaimed SeaXplorer range of expedition yachts.

Currently this is just a concept, but there are a number of similarly impressive designs that have been built if you are looking to make a purchase. To start your search view all new and pre-owned yachts for sale.
