Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 10.1m beam and a 2.95m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 776 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in late 1999 with the keel laid under the project name 'Netanya VII'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

The silhouette of Olympia is inviting, featuring expansive glazing that maximizes natural light and offers unobstructed views of the surrounding ocean. The yacht's main saloon benefits from nearly full-length windows, with the thoughtful design feature of lowered bulwarks and open rails, allowing guests to enjoy the water vistas even from a seated position.

Taking the concept of indoor-outdoor living to new heights, the sky lounge boasts near-entirely glazed sides, further blurring the lines between the yacht's luxurious interior and the natural beauty of the sea. This commitment to openness is reinforced on the upper deck, where the aft portion of the bulwark is replaced by glass, and the stairway to the sun deck is built as a freestanding, transparent structure crafted from stainless steel tubes.

Olympia's strategic layout includes an amidships engine room, which allows for optimal balance and weight distribution. The guest cabins are conveniently located aft, with the crew quarters positioned forward on the lower deck. The main deck's saloon is situated at the rear, transitioning forward through the dining room and the main entrance lobby, eventually leading to the full-width owner's suite.

On the upper deck, Olympia's tenders are ingeniously stowed in 'docks' set into the sides of the superstructure, resulting in an elongated superstructure and an extended top deck that still preserves a spacious and unobstructed aft deck area. This clever arrangement not only enhances the yacht's profile but also its functionality.

The sun deck offers both a spa pool and sunbathing areas shielded by a glass windscreen to protect guests from the breeze while underway. A complete glass wall divides the space, ensuring that the aft part of the deck remains a serene environment for al fresco dining, protected from the elements.

Olympia's exterior respects the classic yachting heritage while embracing the very best of contemporary design and technology.

Interior Design

White-stained ash with an open-grain finish sets the tone for the interior, providing a natural and understated backdrop that is both formal and inviting. This choice of wood, complemented by white wool carpets and light-colored furnishings, reinforces the desire for a space that seamlessly integrates with the outside world.

Mark Hampton's initial vision was thoughtfully refined by the London-based design firm of Jon Bannenberg, brought in to infuse the interior with additional layers of color and texture. Led by Jon's son Dicky, the Bannenberg team adeptly introduced subtle enhancements, such as the strategic incorporation of bird's-eye maple. This light timber, featuring a pale golden-brown hue and a pleasing grain texture, adds depth and warmth without detracting from the overall brightness of the space.

The meticulous craftsmanship is evident in the raised and fielded paneling and classical pillars that characterize the interior architecture. Bannenberg's intervention also saw the transformation of certain fixed furnishings into freestanding pieces, lending a more relaxed and informal tone to the yacht's saloons. The decoration scheme, inspired by the yacht's name, includes classical art and etchings that resonate with Olympia's Greek namesake, particularly in the main entrance lobby where the presence of the Parthenon's etchings feels most profound.

Olympia boasts not one, but two master staterooms, each with distinctive features. The owner's suite on the main deck is a spacious sanctuary complete with a study, expansive bedroom, and a gymnasium in lieu of a second bathroom. The VIP suite on the lower deck offers a warm ambiance with golden-brown fabric wall panels and an antique sea-chest that adds an exotic touch. Both suites feature luxurious bathrooms adorned with white marble and top-quality fixtures.

The yacht's flexible accommodation also includes additional cabins, each designed with double beds and Pullman berths, catering to a range of guest arrangements. These are equipped with en suite bathrooms and audio-visual systems, ensuring that guests experience the same level of comfort and entertainment as found in the primary suites.

From the outset, the intention was to minimize the barriers between the yacht's interior and the natural beauty of the sea. This is achieved through expansive glazing and the strategic lowering of bulwarks, allowing for uninterrupted views of the water, even from a seated position in the main saloon. The sky lounge pushes this concept further with its almost entirely glazed sides and a transparent staircase leading to the sun deck, enhancing the feeling of openness and connection with the marine surroundings.

Accommodation

Olympia can comfortably house up to 10 guests within five suites comprising an owner's cabin, three double cabins and a twin cabin.

The owner's quarters are prominently positioned on the main deck, offering a full-beam stateroom that exemplifies grandeur and tranquility. The suite includes a private study for moments of quiet contemplation or business needs, leading to a serene bedroom with ample natural light streaming through large windows, complemented by tasteful decor in soothing blue and light brown fabrics. The suite also features a private gym for maintaining wellness routines, and a spacious closet offering abundant storage.

Descending to the lower deck, guests will find a generously sized VIP suite, designed with the same attention to detail and luxury as the owner's quarters. Warm, golden-brown fabric panels line the walls, creating a cosy ambiance. Antiques and art pieces add a touch of personality and charm to the space, while the adjoining white marble bathroom with a full-sized tub and separate shower provides a spa-like atmosphere.

Additional guest accommodations on the lower deck are flexible and meticulously arranged, with three further cabins that can adapt to various guest configurations. Each cabin boasts a double bed and additional Pullman berths, ensuring comfort for families or groups of friends. The two aft cabins are notably spacious and include luxurious bathtubs, while the third cabin is slightly smaller with a convenient shower. All cabins are equipped with audio and video systems, including televisions with satellite capabilities and high-quality sound systems for entertainment.

Crew quarters can house up to 16 and are thoughtfully positioned forward on the lower deck, separate from guest spaces to ensure privacy and discretion. The crew accommodations are designed to meet the highest standards, providing comfortable living spaces for those dedicated to delivering impeccable service throughout the journey.
