Delivered in 2020, Aurelia is an award winning 39.37m motor yacht built by Italian shipyard Cantiere delle Marche. The yacht's elegant exterior design is by Sergio Cutolo, while her interiors are the work of Francesco Paszkowski Design.
Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement w/ bulbous bow steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.6m beam and a 2.6m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 380 GT (Gross Tonnes).
This was the first yacht built on the Flexplorer 130 design. Launched in September 2020 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in October 2020.
Exterior Design
Aurelia's exterior design is a masterful creation that embodies the spirit of adventure without sacrificing the elegance that is synonymous with luxury yachting. The yacht's profile is characterized by a classic rounded bilge with flatter sections at the aft, optimizing prop shaft clearance for reduced noise levels and the accommodation of larger, more efficient propellers. A distinctive chine forward deflects sea spray effectively, while a pronounced flare at the bow minimizes pitching, enhancing comfort and performance in varied sea conditions.
The 'Flexplorer's' defining feature is the innovative carbon fiber A-frame crane, a testament to the yacht's capability and versatility. This powerful apparatus can hoist up to 3.5 tonnes, making the deployment and retrieval of the yacht's sizable tenders and toys, including the 8.5-meter Joker Boat Clubman 28 EFB and Williams Dieseljet 445, an effortless task. The crane's design also allows for the possibility of carrying a submersible, such as the Triton 660/2, expanding the horizons of underwater exploration for guests.
Aesthetically, the yacht's open aft deck is a triumph of design, offering an expansive area that seamlessly transitions from a functional space for equipment storage to an indulgent social setting. The aft deck can be transformed into a 135-square meter leisure area when the tenders are launched, allowing guests to bask in the open air and enjoy direct access to the sea. The bulwarks on either side fold down hydraulically, enhancing the beam and creating an even more spacious environment for entertainment or relaxation.
Alfresco dining is elegantly accommodated on the upper aft deck, where guests can savor exquisite meals in the open air, surrounded by breathtaking vistas. The upper deck is also home to an intimate lounge/cinema, perfect for evening entertainment, and a wheelhouse that boasts a generous foredeck lounging area for daytime enjoyment. The private Jacuzzi deck crowns Aurelia, designed as a secluded sanctuary for the owner, featuring a spacious spa pool, ample refrigeration, and discreet storage solutions.
Interior Design
The interior design of Aurelia is a testament to the owner's unique vision and taste, showcasing a distinctive blend of industrial chic and bespoke craftsmanship that sets it apart from traditional luxury yacht aesthetics.
Occupying the vessel's interiors is a palette of muted tones, punctuated by industrial elements that evoke the ambiance of a sophisticated warehouse conversion one might find in the heart of a cosmopolitan city. The use of materials is both innovative and evocative, with panels of plywood thinly coated in concrete juxtaposed against steel girders that stretch across the ceiling. The flooring, comprised of brushed oak planks of varying widths, is deliberately designed to give an impression of irregularity and repurposed charm.
This industrial theme is elegantly woven throughout the spaces, from the steel-framed furniture to the slate surfaces that grace the yacht's countertops. Sofas clad in vintage leather invite guests to recline in comfort, while simultaneously contributing to the narrative of Aurelia's interior story. The commitment to detail is evidenced by the brass piping that carries the wiring for the lights, an element that is artfully exposed rather than concealed, adhering to the yacht's industrial motif.
A standout feature that captures the essence of Aurelia's unique interior is the wine cellar, which is ingeniously integrated within the main staircase. Fabricated by architectural metalworking specialist Romagnoli, the cellar is composed of rotating racks that house 44 bottles each. This spectacular display runs between the main and upper decks, resembling an elevator shaft abounding with fine vintages, ensuring that the Grand Crus are not merely stored but celebrated as a central aspect of the yacht's design.
The staircase itself, enveloped in leather, offers a tactile experience that complements the industrial atmosphere while adding a touch of luxury underfoot. It encapsulates the yacht's design philosophy, where contrasts between the raw and the refined are thoughtfully balanced to create an environment that is both authentic and comfortable.
Each piece of furniture aboard Aurelia has a story to tell, with many items salvaged from previous lives or crafted to mirror the essence of vintage finds. Notable among these is a daybed that recalls the simplicity of a World War I mattress, reimagined in opulent Ralph Lauren fabric. Another intriguing piece is a lamp repurposed from an airfield landing light, discovered by Paszkowski in an Italian flea market, which now serves as a striking decorative element that honors the yacht's adventurous spirit.
Accommodation
Eight guests are welcomed into a sanctuary of four suites, tailored to the owner's unique preferences and requirements. The owner's suite, a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship, serves as the centerpiece of the yacht's private accommodations. This space is designed to offer the utmost in luxury and privacy, providing a haven for relaxation and contemplation amidst the stunning backdrop of the world's oceans.
Customized to accommodate the owner's stature, the cabin features increased headroom and doorways, ensuring a comfortable and spacious environment. The cabin, alongside additional guest cabins, is appointed with the finest materials and finishes, reflecting the owner's distinct taste and the yacht's overall style.
Aurelia offers an array of guest cabins, each crafted to provide a luxurious and restful environment for those on board. The yacht's layout includes accommodations configured to maximize both comfort and functionality, ensuring that every guest enjoys a stay that is both indulgent and convenient.
For crew members, Aurelia features thoughtfully designed quarters that reflect the shipyard's understanding of the importance of a well-rested and comfortable crew in providing exceptional service. The accommodations for up to six crew are arranged to offer privacy and comfort, enabling the dedicated team to maintain the yacht's high standards of operation seamlessly.
Performance & Capabilities
Aurelia is equipped with twin Caterpillar C32 engines, boasting a formidable combined power output of 1,492kW. This robust propulsion system enables a top speed of 14 knots, allowing her to glide through the water with grace and efficiency. At a cruising speed of 10 knots, she offers a remarkable range that exceeds initial expectations. Originally intended to journey over 5,000 nautical miles, sea trials have revealed an impressive potential range of 8,000 nautical miles at this cruising speed, ensuring that Aurelia can undertake extended voyages with fewer refueling requirements.
The engineering team, led by Sergio Cutolo of Hydro Tec, has meticulously designed the yacht's underwater profile and engineering to maximize performance. The hull features a classic rounded shape with flatter sections aft to optimize propeller shaft clearance, which contributes to reduced noise levels and permits the use of a larger, more efficient propeller. The forward chine effectively deflects spray, and the heavy flare minimizes pitching, enhancing Aurelia's sea-keeping abilities.
In addition to speed and range, stability is a crucial aspect of Aurelia's design. She is equipped with advanced stabilization technology and this ensures that Aurelia remains steady and comfortable for her guests, whether she is cruising the high seas or anchored in a secluded bay.
Moreover, the Flexplorer's technical platform is described as being "over-specced" and "over-engineered," which translates into a high degree of redundancy for safe operation in remote and challenging environments. The emphasis on a robust build and reliable systems underlines the yacht's readiness for adventure in various oceanic conditions, from tranquil tropical waters to the more demanding climates of the polar regions.
Amenities
The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. In addition, a swim platform is on hand for guests looking to cool off in the sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Aurelia also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off and an inviting spread of sunpads.
