Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) has revealed it has capped a busy 2021 with the sale of two 44.34m (146ft) Flexplorer 146 models as the year draws to a close.
The renowned builder of explorer yachts also announced its other lines had been successful this year, and that it currently had 14 explorer vessels under construction.
CdM’s Flexplorer range is, as the name suggests, a series of explorer yachts that offer plenty of customization options. The inaugural model from the line, AURELIA, made her debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. A Flexplorer 146 was then sold in November, with the second model being sold earlier this month to what the yard called a “young and enthusiastic American Owner, who wished to build his own yacht to enjoy cruising far and wide”.
Since the first Flexplorer was presented, the Flexplorer line is facing an unprecedented commercial success.”

Co-founder and Sales and Marketing Director of CdM, Vasco Buonpensiere, explained what he thought had made the range so popular: “We decided to stress the customization to the limit offering our international clientele a concept within which each Owner can build together with us his own Flexplorer. Our move proved to be a successful reality (some of the Flexplorers in build are three-deckers, some are four-deckers) and since the first Flexplorer Aurelia was presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2021, the Flexplorer line is facing an unprecedented commercial success.”
In common with the other yachts in the line, the latest Flexplorer 146 is designed by Sergio Cutolo/Hydro Tec and will feature four decks plus an under lower deck. Other highlights include an Owner’s deck with a skylounge, cold plunge pool and stateroom with an office, a wheelhouse deck with a large sun deck and steps leading up to a panoramic terrace with 360° views and what CdM refer to as an “immense terrace” on the main deck astern. Here a 10m (33ft) custom tender, crew tender and jet skis can all be stored and launched with an A-frame crane.
The ultra-efficient hull form, designed for the Flexplorer range by Hydro Tec, will give the yacht undoubted explorer qualities with a range of over 6,500nm at 10 knots.
Vasco Buonpensiere confirmed that, in common with many other shipyards, 2021 had been a fruitful year for CdM: “By the end of the year we will update you on our order book that sees other lines being successful as well (the RJ line and our war horse, the Darwin Class, plus a few one-off designs). As for today CdM has as many as 14 explorer vessels under construction and we are further strengthening our technical staff to give each project maximum attention and care to deliver the best quality.”
Founded in 2010, Ancona-based Cantiere delle Marche, has already cemented itself as one of the leading builders of explorer yachts in the world, building steel and aluminum displacement yachts in the 26m to 43m (85ft to 138ft) bracket.
