To be delivered in 2025, Moonflower 72 is a 72m motor yacht built by Italian shipyard Wider Yachts. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Nauta Design, while Nauta Yachts is responsible for her naval architecture.
Key Features
- New 'Island' Beach Club concept
- Advanced hybrid propulsion
- Indoor/outdoor connection
- Recycles heat for onboard hot water
Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 12m beam. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 1,450 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Exterior Design
The exterior design of the Moonflower 72 is a result of a collaboration between Nauta Design and Wider Yachts, focusing on clean lines without fuss. The exterior is marked by predominantly horizontal lines and extensive use of glass, creating a sense of visual lightness and a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The chamfered sheer line amidships adds a dynamic touch to the hull, giving it a sleek appearance akin to a knife blade cutting through the water. This design combines bold longitudinal shapes with organic contours and balanced volumes, aiming for a look that remains relevant and appealing over time. The aesthetic approach blends both masculine and feminine forms, ensuring practicality and functionality are not compromised.
A notable feature is 'The Island,' an innovative beach club concept. This comprises multiple fold-down platforms that extend the swim platform and beach club, covering 117 square meters. This design allows guests to move freely around the aft perimeter of the yacht, enhancing their connection with the sea.
Performance & Capabilities
The Moonflower 72 is equipped with two variable-speed generators from MAN Energy Solutions, each providing 1,860 kW. These generators are part of Wider's advanced hybrid technology, which works in tandem with a sodium nickel battery bank of approximately 1 MW/h from FZSoNick. This setup allows for optimized energy production, minimizing consumption and reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 20%.
The yacht is powered by endothermic engines that are prepared for HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and Methanol, aligning with Wider's commitment to a net-zero emissions approach. Additionally, the yacht's electric propulsion system is designed to recycle heat energy, utilizing it for all hot-water needs aboard.
