Columbus adds new 40m superyacht to Crossover range

The ‘40 Crossover’ has a range of 4,000 nm and a giant main deck aft that can take 8m (26’) tender.

Italian shipyard Columbus has added a 40m (131’) superyacht to its range of Crossover models.

The new explorer-inspired yacht – aptly named the ‘40 Crossover’ – mixes superyacht luxury with a real sense of purpose and capability, backed up by that 4000nm range and some vast deck areas.

The ‘40’ will be the smallest in the Crossover range, which features 50m (164’) and 57m (187’) models, but packs a lot in with three excellent decks and five cabins.

All three Crossover models have been penned by Italian designer Hydro Tec, creating that explorer yacht feel with tall, powerful bows and long sweeps of aft deck.

The 40’s aft deck features folding bulwarks to maximise the space on offer. There is also room for an 8m (26’) tender plus plenty of toys, with a retractable crane neatly handling launch and recovery.

The 40 Crossover has a steel displacement hull and a bow that can store tender.

Inside, those tall bows deliver a large and luxurious Owner’s cabin, forward of the main salon, with four guest cabins below deck.

The upper deck features a spacious dining area, while the sun deck has room for loungers and a full barbecue and bar area. Plus, there’s access to a crow’s nest for that truly adventurous feel.

Exterior

The 40 Crossover’s party piece is its large main deck aft. It features a huge pool, with a sliding cover, and six sun loungers, designed to make the yacht feel like the Owner’s own movable private island.

In addition, the port and starboard bulwarks can be folded down to create a more open and unrestricted atmosphere.

The 40 Crossover is powered by a pair of Caterpillar engines that give it an impressive claimed range of 4,000 nm. They produce 2,638hp overall, with a top speed of 14 knots.

Tender

The size of the main deck aft makes it ideal for stowing tenders and toys but, if Owners want to keep the deck clear for sunbathing, they can stow the tender at the foredeck.

The 40 Crossover can take a tender of up to 8m and 2.5 tons – excellent for a 40m yacht. The tender can be launched and recovered with a discretely concealed crane.

The 40 Crossover uses a crane to move tender into the water.

The 40 Crossover’s sun deck has an area with large sofas for sunbathing, not to mention an outside dining area and bar. Above is a crow’s-nest-like platform for observation, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding ocean.

Interior

Inside, there’s an intimate main salon with plenty of comfortable seating. On the upper deck is a spacious dining area, forward of an alfresco dinner table and sofa should guests want to eat in naturally beautiful weather.

The yacht can accommodate up to ten guests. The Owner’s cabin is found forward on the main deck, while the other four cabins are below deck, amidship.
