Named Pagurus after the Latin word for crab, the catamaran is the seventh nature-inspired concept the Italian based-design studio has released. Previous designs include the 153m (502ft) shark-inspired Prodigium and the swan-shaped 137m (450ft) Avanguardia concept.
Conceived initially as a military vehicle, Pagarus draws its power from both sun and water.
Solar paneling on the exterior provides a range of six to seven hours cruising at a speed of five knots. Two 6.5m steel cylinders immersed in the water generate hydro-power, providing enough energy to recharge the yacht's batteries whilst underway.
Those same cylinders can also be lowered into a drive position when the yacht reaches land, allowing Pegasus to move across sand or mud with a claimed top speed of 30km (18 miles) per hour. Exactly how this incredible feat will work in practice is currently unknown.
Pagarus' on-water mode is somewhat more traditional, with twin shaftdrive 890hp diesel engines giving an estimated top speed of 24 knots.
Eight guests can be accommodated across two hulls connected via a bridge deck tower station. The hulls can include three cabins, a kitchen and a dining area.
Pagarus can be built on demand from a starting price of €6,580,000 for a carbon version with twin-jet drive and a price of up to €24,000,000 for the amphibious crab-inspired version made with reinforced steel.
