Diana Yacht Design unveil 47m concept to mark half a century in business

The 47m (154ft) Diana R.50 design was born out of a discussion with a client and packs superyacht-style living into a sub 500GT space.

Diana Yacht Design has drawn up a new superyacht concept to commemorate its 50th anniversary.

The 47m (154ft) Diana R.50 has been designed with the intention of creating a yacht that feels huge and is packed full of superyacht features, but remains under the 500GT mark.

Her distinctive exteriors are characterized by bold-lines and an eye-catching two-tone color scheme of chevy white and gunmetal grey. The concept draws on key exterior features of open and spacious decks.

She features al-fresco dining spaces on every deck, a sun deck with Jacuzzi, large bar, shaded dining area and sun loungers and a lower deck beach area for relaxing at the water’s edge. The bridge deck is home to another shaded dining area and also has plenty of space forward for tender storage. Trips ashore are also made easy thanks to the sundeck-based touch-and-go helipad.

Inside the main salon offers a formal dining area and plenty of space for relaxed lounging, with large glass doors leading out to the open aft deck. A spacious skylounge on the bridge deck comes complete with a fully-equipped bar and panoramic views.

Five guest staterooms sit below deck, made up of four double cabins and a large VIP suite whilst the full-beam Owner’s suite is located on the main deck.

The design itself was borne out of a discussion between Diana Yacht Design and a client, as Hans-Maarten Bais, Diana Yacht Design’s creative director, explains: “She started life after a discussion with a client. As a finalist in the Boat International Young Designer Awards, our designer Casper Marelis was full of fantastic ideas. Together with our team of naval architects, supervised by Bart de Haan, he created a design and presented a yacht that the client loved.”

“Ultimately, the project did not go ahead, but we knew that this design was too good to hideaway. We decided to revisit the design together with the DIANA team for our 50th anniversary. We expanded on the original concept to create something really unique. With excellent seakeeping, maximized living spaces and bold styling, R.50 represents the best of Diana Yacht Design.”

Diana Yacht Design has been behind the design of a number of superyachts over the years ranging from the 49.23m (162ft) Michaela Rose to the 21.45m (70ft) YXT 20. According to YachtBuyer intelligence the first project it worked on was the 48.5m (159ft) custom yacht PASSION, delivered in 1973 and still on the water as a popular yacht for charter.

Whilst this is still a concept there are plenty of superyachts already on the water should you be looking to make a purchase. For the widest possible choice view all new and pre-owned yachts for sale.
