Dutch shipyard Heesen has laid the keel of the Project Sparta superyacht in a ceremony held on 19th October.
The start of construction was commemorated by a representative of the Owner, who placed an Ancient Greek coin, depicting Poseidon and a galloping horse, on one of the yacht’s steel engine girders.
The building will be completed in time to deliver the fully custom superyacht (officially dubbed YN 20067) to her Owner in October 2023, four years after she was first sold in October 2019. With an internal volume of 1,200 GRT, she will be the largest steel-hull displacement superyacht Heesen has ever created.
Project Sparta’s exterior has been penned by studio Winch Design, and makes use of Van Oossanen Naval Architects’ patented Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF). The hull is designed to reduce resistance at all speeds, creating a strong overall performance that increases efficiency by between 15 and 20 percent.
As a result, at a cruising speed of 12 knots, she will have a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles – more than enough to compete with similarly sized yachts for sale.

Also remarkable is the interior of Project Sparta, which will have a main salon that occupies the full 11.5m (37.5ft) beam. The yacht also has six cabins for a presumed capacity of twelve guests. Four of them are forward on the main deck, although – thanks to a sliding partition – the foremost two in the bow can combine into one full-beam VIP suite.
The other two are on the bridge deck, which is entirely reserved as the Owner’s private quarters. One forward has its own lounge area, while the other, aft, opens out into an exterior dining area and stern-facing terrace. There will also be provisions for fourteen crew members and two staff.
Project Sparta will have a spiral staircase and glass elevator that serve the lower deck, main deck and bridge deck. On the lowermost, guests will get a wellness area with a gym, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.
There’ll also be a sundeck with another jacuzzi, as well as a bar and large sunpads. Aft, the transom area of the superyacht features a 6.5m (21.5ft) infinity pool.
