Heesen’s Project Gemini moves closer to delivery

Dutch builder Heesen has announced it has installed engines and joined the hull and superstructure of its 55m (180ft) Project Gemini ahead of her planned delivery next year.

Heesen has announced its 55m (180ft) Project Gemini has taken the next steps towards her scheduled delivery over the past week.

The Dutch shipyard installed the twin MTU 8V 4000 M63 IMO Tier-III diesel engines before joining of the steel hull and aluminium superstructure.

All of this means that the latest edition to Heesen’s 55m Steel range is set to be ready to enjoy the winter season in the Caribbean with an anticipated delivery of October 2022.

Rick van de Wetering, Heesen's Chief Operating Officer, commented: "Building something as complex as a superyacht during the pandemic is challenging. But thanks to the reorganization of our schedules and shifts, the great flexibility of the extended Heesen family, and above all to the passionate commitment of our superb craftsmen and women, we have been able to stick to our plans."

The yacht is a first-time collaboration with Luca Dini Design & Architecture, who are responsible for her intricate and refined interiors, while Frank Laupman of Omega Architects drew her clean and uncluttered exterior lines. It sports a patented steel Fast Displacement hull, devised by Dutch hydrodynamicists Van Oossanen and honed by Heesen’s very own team of naval architects and engineers.

Highlights of Project Gemini include six luxurious suites, the highlight of which is an enormous master stateroom with floor-to-ceiling winders, a full-beam skylounge, a fully-fledged wellness area and a 110 square meter (1184 sq.ft) sundeck.

It also sports frugal fuel consumption throughout its speed range, with a range of 4,500nm at 13 knots and a top speed of 15.5knots.
