Lürssen unveils 98m superyacht concept with ponds, parks and a river pool

The concept, named ALICE, is also emission-free and has a strong focus on environmental sustainability.

Lürssen has revealed its first superyacht concept in a decade, a 98m (321.5ft) emission-free design complete with ponds, parks and a winding river pool.

The concept, named ALICE, has the intention of being climate neutral, with emission-free fuel cells replacing conventional diesel generators. The fuel cells generate electrical energy based on hydrogen reformed from green methanol. For higher speed and energy demands, an additional methanol engine is added.

The emphasis on the environment doesn’t stop there, the concept also utilizes waste heat recovery that recovers heat emissions for use within the HVAC system for both heating and cooling purposes. In addition mirrored glass windows around the Owner’s deck reflect the heat and create thermal insulation, reducing the energy load of the air conditioning system.

The concept further engages with nature with its decks featuring a labyrinth of parks, ponds, and a winding river pool for a unique onboard ecosystem. Traditional teak decking is also replaced by organically farmed wood.

The hull features classic Lürssen lines, and a raised superstructure acts as a natural shade for the extended deck space. There is no main salon, and instead, ALICE features multiple alfresco dining and lounging areas, alongside other highlights such as a floating glass-bottomed pool suspended above the entrance area and across an opening in the sundeck. The sundeck is also home to a helipad. The master suite is positioned forward on the upper deck, with eight further staterooms found on the lower levels.

A model of the concept is set to be on display at Miniatur Wunderland, a Hamburg tourist attraction that showcases small-scale models and which this year will include a miniature model of Monaco.

Lürssen hinted at its eco-focus earlier this year when it announced that it is working on its first yacht with fuel cell technology, for an owner who “loves technology and new developments”. The yacht is set to be delivered in 2025.

The German yard has a history of leading by example in the superyacht world and dominates the world’s top 100 yachts by length, appearing in the list 30 times, including four of the six longest yachts currently on the sea.
