First opening its doors back in 1991, the Monaco Yacht Show has continually attracted vast numbers to witness some of the most momentous vessels in the yachting industry, and 2019 was no exception.
Stars of the show were sprinkled throughout the expanse of the show, but two of the headline attractions were two 100m plus vessels on show for the very first time.
Both from the German shipyard Lurssen, 112m (367ft) TIS and 106m (347ft) AMADEA both made a statement in the docks and showcased the reason why the German yard was so dominant in the large yacht sector.
Away from the 100m yachts, it was slightly further down the size spectrum that the biggest headlines were perhaps made.
The 80m Abeking & Rasmussen, EXCELLENCE, won the Finest Yacht category at the show’s awards ceremony. Available for charter, this striking yacht was shown by the builder and drew audible gasps with its vast glazed sections.
No show would be complete without a Feadship moment, or two, and so it was for 2019 with the stylistically immaculate 77m (253ft) SYZYGY 818, reminding us that no one does superyacht sophistication quite like this Dutch master.
While yachts are getting undeniably bigger, they are also getting more impressive further down the size spectrum, with yards outside of the north-European-axis out to impress.
The 50m and 60m market had a raft of impressive yachts, including the eco-aware 64m Sanlorenzo, ATTILA, the 60m SAMURAI from relative newcomer Alia yachts and BINTADOR, a remarkably spacious 50m yacht from Tankoa.
The great Riva name has also entered the superyacht sector with RACE, a 50m tri-deck and one that delivers a typically high-quality vessel from this iconic Italian yard.
