The latest superyacht concept from Dutch-based Van Geest Design draws its inspiration from nature’s ability to sculpt the environment over time.
Designer Peter Van Geest got the idea for the 140m (459ft) Pebble yacht concept from the smooth and interestingly shaped pebbles regularly spotted on the seashore. It is intended to provide an alternative from geometric and cubist designs.
“A pebble has been modeled with time, shaped with water and wind” he explains. “Pebble is the escape from our city landscapes, skyscrapers, and mainly cubism shapes we encounter in daily life.”
The concept is designed with this thought in mind, as a superyacht that can slip seamlessly into the ocean environment. Smooth soft edges feature strongly, the large deck overhangs feature soft rounded shapes, and the vertical bow and closed transom also have smooth, soft edges. The idea is taken as far as the alfresco deck furniture that also follows suit.
Features of the concept include an upper deck dedicated entirely to health and wellness, both a transom beach club and a side-opening beach club, several pools and Jacuzzis and a top deck helipad.
Located in Amsterdam, Van Geest Design specializes in luxury-yacht design and project management. Other concepts include 130m (426ft) Project Aura, inspired by hand-carved sculptures and an innovative collaboration with Fincantieri Yachts on the 106m (348ft) concept MIRAGE, a ‘disappearing’ superyacht clad in glass.
