Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 10.2m beam and a 3.1m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 835 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in mid 2019 with the keel laid under the project name '13800'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in April 2021 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in November 2021.
Exterior Design
Taking inspiration from the classic lines of the iconic Carinthia VI, the 55.5-metre Moon Sand features a silhouette that harmoniously blends tradition with modernity.
Crafted with a keen eye for elegance, Moon Sand's exterior lines are a direct nod to the work of the legendary Jon Bannenberg. These lines, reinterpreted by Bannenberg & Rowell Design, pay homage to the legacy of the 71-metre yacht launched in 1973, now known as The One. The result is a yacht that feels timeless yet distinctly contemporary, showcasing a sleek profile with sharp, straight lines that stretch from bow to stern.
This vessel's design evolution underwent several iterations, each refining the balance between its storied inspiration and the owner's vision for a yacht of grandeur but not grandiosity. The final design boasts a softer, more curvaceous bulwark, adding to the yacht's dynamic aesthetic while maintaining her sleek and stately presence.
The Moon Sand's superstructure is adorned with meticulously sculpted curves, which reveal their full beauty upon closer inspection. These design elements are not only visually striking but also serve to enhance the yacht's on-board experience, allowing for unobstructed views and a flood of natural light through the expansive windowpanes. Remarkably, the upper deck lounge features some of the largest glass installations Lürssen has ever fitted, a feat achieved without the interruption of mullions.
On the main aft deck, the owner's desire for spacious living areas culminates in a generous outdoor space that is accentuated by a transformative pool. The pool's base can be raised to become flush with the surrounding faux teak deck when not in use, seamlessly integrating it into the deck area and providing additional flexibility for entertainment or relaxation.
The yacht's beam, just one meter wider than its predecessor, belies the sense of openness felt within the saloons. This sensation is amplified by the large windowpanes that contribute to the interior's airy and inviting ambiance. The designers' commitment to optimizing every aspect of the yacht is further evidenced in the meticulous attention to detail and the clever use of space throughout the vessel's exterior.
Interior Design
The interior styling, crafted by the visionary minds at Bannenberg & Rowell Design, seamlessly integrates bold and sophisticated elements. The design team was given carte blanche by the owner to explore bespoke elements, resulting in an interior that is not only grand but also distinctly personalized and brimming with character. The design ethos was to create a calming backdrop that still allowed for playful and engaging details to flourish—reflecting the owner's preference without the overwhelming presence of vibrant colors.
Bronze and brass detailing artfully accentuate the owner's favored color palette of blues and yellows, bringing a warm and refined ambience to the spaces onboard. Custom furnishings by Frank Pollaro, Silverlining, and Linley contribute to the uniqueness of the yacht's interior, each piece meticulously crafted to fit the specific vision for Moon Sand. The furniture is not merely aesthetic but also functional, with hidden features like power units and storage for remote controls integrated seamlessly into the designs.
A striking example of the yacht's thoughtful design is the main saloon, a versatile and inviting space where two separate seating areas coexist harmoniously with an exquisite dining table as the centerpiece. The saloon's large windowpanes, free from visual obstructions, bathe the area in natural light, enhancing the sense of openness. The design team's innovative approach to window dressing, utilizing ombré mesh bordered by glass frames, ensures privacy without sacrificing the panoramic views or natural illumination.
The upper deck lounge stands out as the owner's sanctuary—a multifunctional space that is at once a games area, a lounge, an office, and a bar. The lounge's eclectic mix of woods and the custom-designed furnishings underscore the yacht's commitment to a unique and luxurious experience for the owner and guests.
Attention to detail extends to the lighting fixtures, with petal-shaped white glass fixtures by Preciosa adorning the main saloon and dining area, offering a modern and delicate alternative to the initially considered Chihuly chandelier. These fixtures complement the drop ceilings, which are finished with a subtle blue-sky fresco, further enhancing the serene yet vibrant atmosphere.
The commitment to a bespoke experience is evident down to the finest details, from the power units concealed in furniture to the drawer purposefully built into the master cabin dresser. The Moon Sand experience is one where every item has its place, and every design choice serves a function, encapsulating the essence of custom luxury yachting.
Accommodation
Moon Sand's guest accommodations are thoughtfully distributed across its 55.5-metre length. The yacht comfortably houses up to 10 guests within its generously proportioned cabins, each meticulously designed to provide an unparalleled level of luxury and privacy. The vessel's interior layout includes a lavish master suite, which is equipped with an expansive walk-in closet, signifying the opulence expected of a yacht of this calibre. The master suite serves as a private retreat for the owner, offering an oasis of tranquillity coupled with the finest amenities.
In addition to the master suite, Moon Sand features several lower deck guest cabins, each one a testament to the yacht's commitment to offering spacious and luxurious accommodations. These cabins are larger than one might typically find on a yacht of this size, reflecting the owner's desire to prioritize the enlargement of living spaces. Every guest cabin has been crafted with attention to detail, ensuring that each guest enjoys a sumptuous and restful environment.
The designers have gone to great lengths to optimize every aspect of the interior, allowing for an elegant flow between the cabins and common areas, while also ensuring that each space is utilized to its full potential. The result is a harmonious blend of luxury and function, with every cabin serving as a haven of comfort.
Attention to the well-being of the crew has not been overlooked. Moon Sand's crew accommodations for up to 15 onboard are a reflection of the owner's value for the crew's comfort, with spacious showers, a comfortable mess, and a large galley. The yacht's accommodations for the crew reflect a commitment to providing a high standard of living for those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure a seamless experience for guests.
