Heesen’s 81m superyacht GALACTICA gets set for sea trials

The superyacht, which will become Heesen’s largest yacht to date upon delivery and the fastest aluminum yacht ever built, is heading to the North Sea for her sea trials.

Heesen’s record-breaking 81m (265ft) superyacht GALACTICA, previously known as Project Cosmos, has left the yard’s Oss facilities in preparation for her sea trials on the North Sea later this month.

The 1,700GT yacht was first announced in March 2018 and will be both Heesen’s largest yacht to date and the biggest and fastest all-aluminum yacht ever built with a top speed of almost 30 knots.

Her notable top speed comes from a lightweight and low-drag hull design from Heesen’s naval architects that is based on an iteration of van Oossanen’s Fast Displacement Hull Form. The yard has also collaborated with Winch Design on her striking exterior with its extensive use of glass and Sinot Yacht Design and Architecture on her elegant interiors which are characterized by light hues and accents of blue and dark wenge.

Other highlights onboard superyacht GALACTICA include a beach club with a backlit onyx bar, a glass-bottom pool with a waterfall effect and a fully-rated helideck that transforms into an open-air cinema. She sleeps 12 guests across six cabins which include a highly private on-deck Owner’s stateroom.

Super yacht GALACTICA was originally known as hull YN19480 when she was announced in March 2018, and she was seen in public for the first time in 2020. At the end of last year, GALACTICA had her technical launch at Heesen’s Oss shipyard. She is due to be delivered later this year.

Superyacht GALACTICA will usurp the similarly named 70m (230ft) ‘Galactica Super Nova’ as Heesen’s largest yacht. Other projects the Dutch yard has in the pipeline include 66m (217ft) Project Avanti, 60m (197ft) motor yacht LUSINE, formally known as Project Falcon, and 60m (197ft) Project Skyfall.
