Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 34'9" beam and a 13'1" draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 969 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in early 1972. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in September 1973 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in January 1974.
Exterior Design
The exterior design of Just B features a raked bow, which enhances its sleek and streamlined appearance. The deck is constructed from durable teak, providing a classic and functional surface for outdoor activities. The hull is painted grey, offering a modern and sophisticated look. The superstructure is finished in white, creating a clean contrast with the hull. The boot top and areas below the waterline are both painted black, adding to the vessel's refined and polished aesthetic.
Just B underwent significant modifications to transform a 25-year-old commercial vessel into a modern expedition yacht. The metalwork and fabrication included relocating bulkheads and replacing old deck hardware. New hydraulic side deck and foredeck gangways, along with a custom passerelle, were installed. The superstructure was rebuilt in marine-grade aluminum, meeting the requirements of Lloyd's Special Service Class for yachts over 50 meters in length.
Attention was given to the deck areas, with the main deck featuring Amtico flooring in frequently used spaces. This practical choice ensures durability and ease of maintenance. The large vertical windows and glass doors create a bright and inviting atmosphere, while elements like ship models and paintings anchor the yacht's style to its maritime heritage.
Just B also features a four-fin Vosper stabilizer system for improved stability at sea. These stabilizers contribute to a smoother experience during voyages, enhancing both comfort and functionality. Additionally, the vessel’s single fixed-pitch propeller, combined with a diesel-electric propulsion system, allows for efficient cruising speeds and extended range.
Interior Design
The saloon, located on the second deck, opens through arched panoramic glass doors to an alfresco dining deck. This area is designed to maximize natural light with large vertical windows, glass doors, pale carpeting, and milky linens. The support beams are covered with rich brown leather, and air-conditioning grilles are hidden behind crown moldings in the stepped ceiling.
The forward section of the room divides into a library and a main dining area. The library, equipped with blue wing-backed chairs and an extensive book collection, leads to a private office. The main dining area features a 12-seater mahogany table and connects to the saloon pantry, which is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, and espresso machine, and linked to the galley by a dumbwaiter.
The aftermost area of the main deck houses a small saloon, a comfortable space that feels like a cross between a family den and a quaint pub. This area is frequently used to welcome guests for drinks. The breakfast room and breakfast galley, located forward of the foyer, offer casual dining for up to six people and can be closed off to serve as a small boardroom if needed.
The galley features stainless steel Miele appliances, Italian granite counters, and additional refrigeration. Non-skid flooring and a carbon dioxide dampening system for fire suppression enhance safety in the galley. A dumbwaiter connects the galley to the crew quarters, dry stores, and primary refrigeration on the lower decks, as well as to the saloon's pantry and sky lounge above.
Accommodation
Just B offers accommodations for up to 14 guests across seven staterooms. The master stateroom, located on the second deck just below the pilothouse, features a king-sized bed, a writing desk, and a sitting area. The room is surrounded by large windows on three sides, which are equipped with electric curtains for privacy.
On the main deck, there are two VIP staterooms, each furnished with a queen-sized bed and bathrooms divided into his-and-hers areas. Additionally, there is a staff cabin on the same deck.
Below the main deck, two further cabins can be found, each with twin beds and en suite shower rooms. These cabins are accessible via separate stairways, ensuring privacy and convenience for guests.
For the crew, Just B provides spacious accommodations amidships for 14 members, ensuring they have the comfort needed to maintain high standards of service throughout the voyage.
