Key Features

  • Spacious cockpit for dining and relaxation
  • Helm with traditional wooden wheel
  • Cathedral skylight in the main saloon
  • Interiors designed by John Munford

Design & Construction

Designed around an aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 30'4" beam and a 14'7" draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 246 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

Meteor’s exterior design captures the essence of traditional American schooners from the 1930s, combined with modern engineering principles. The yacht features a raised bulwark and a substantial teak cap rail, creating a sense of being within the deck rather than on it. The deep Flag Blue Awlgrip paint on the topsides adds a distinct appearance, while the intricately carved bowsprit enhances the pronounced clipper bow.

The deck layout prioritizes functionality and streamlined movement. The forward part of the cockpit, nestled between two deckhouses, is equipped for relaxation and dining. The aft section is designated for the helmsman, offering clear visibility and direct access to the navigation station in the aft deckhouse. Both deckhouses are slightly embedded into the deck to maintain a low profile.

Meteor’s rigging and masts, made from carbon-fiber, contribute to her performance while saving weight. She flies six sails with a total area of 1,862 square meters, excluding the asymmetrical spinnaker stored in a fore-deck locker. The hydraulic winches and carbon 'soft blocks' remove unnecessary clutter and enhance deck safety.

The deck joinery uses dark-hued Murmain Burmese teak, varnished for durability and aesthetic appeal. Deck structures like the saloon's 'cathedral' skylight and other hatches are positioned centrally to keep the wide decks clear. Stainless steel dorades and deck winches are arranged in a precise manner, and the planks are bonded to a plywood sub-deck, giving the deck a structural appearance.

Additional traditional elements, such as the Akerboom starboard gangway and curved port and starboard davits, are constructed from carbon-fiber, marrying classic design with modern materials. The stern passerelle, also made from carbon-fiber, addresses the practical need for boarding at anchor.

Interior Design

The main saloon occupies the full width of the hull and features a cathedral skylight that allows natural light to flood the space. When the linen ceiling blind is drawn, the room offers an intimate atmosphere. The dining area includes terracotta red leather sofas arranged around a central table. On the starboard side, a group of loose furniture is placed in front of a wood-burning fireplace. The cream textured carpet contrasts with the predominant reds and browns of the soft furnishings, which were curated by decorator Pauline Nunns.

In the smaller aft deckhouse, the design includes two back-to-back desks and a wooden rack filled with almanacs and guides, creating a scholarly ambiance. The area is meant for quiet activities and is only disturbed by the ticking of a Schatz bulkhead-mounted clock in calm weather.

The larger forward deckhouse features small, regular windows that limit daylight but enhance a sense of intimacy. This space is furnished with a blue leather wrap-around sofa, adding to the cozy environment. Brass starting cannons are positioned on either side of the staircase leading down to the owners' and guests' quarters.

The main saloon's notable feature is its cathedral skylight, which extends above deck level. When natural light is restricted by the linen blind, the space takes on a club-like atmosphere. The dining setup includes terracotta red leather sofas and a central table, with an adjacent seating area in front of a wood-burning fireplace. The room's cream carpet and the decorator's choice of furnishings provide a cohesive yet contrasting design.

The galley is designed to be both spacious and functional. Even here, the mahogany joinery is a standout, enhancing the room's pristine whiteness. The design is consistent with the rest of the yacht's interior, ensuring a uniform look and feel throughout the vessel.

Accommodation

Meteor offers accommodation for up to 6 guests in 3 suites. Meteor features a full-beam master bedroom located aft of the main saloon. This master suite is furnished with a blue leather L-shaped sofa and an adjoining en suite bathroom that includes both a bath and a generous shower, providing a luxurious private retreat for the owner.

Forward of the saloon, the yacht houses two twin guest cabins. Each cabin is equipped with beds that feature drawers in their bases, reminiscent of the luxury passenger liners of the 1930s. Both guest cabins come with their own en suite shower rooms and day heads, which are adorned with simple blue marble counters, adding a touch of elegance.

For the crew, Meteor provides spacious quarters with a large leather wrap-around sofa, ensuring they have a comfortable space to relax. The captain's cabin features joinery that mirrors the quality found in the owner's quarters, maintaining a high standard of living for all on board.
