Delivered in 2021, Solaris is a 138.96m expedition yacht built by German shipyard Lloyd Werft. Her exterior design comes from the drawing boards of Marc Newson Ltd.

Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement w/ bulbous bow steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 21.55m beam and a 6.8m draft. The yacht is built over 8 decks with an internal volume of 11,247 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.

Construction started in late 2015 with the keel laid under the project name 'Solaris'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in February 2021 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in May 2021.

Exterior Design

The yacht's design prioritizes a dynamic forward balance, achieved through a top-heavy structure. Embracing soft curves over harsh angles and clutter, the profile is clean and elegant. Flush integration of glazing with the superstructure enhances the sleek aesthetic, resulting in over 21,500 square feet of glass surfaces—a record-setting feature in yacht construction. A distinctive arch, extending from the midsection bulwarks, adds a unique silhouette to the yacht's design.

Notable shell openings along the hull include a drop-down balcony for the beach club, followed by the gymnasium and spa area. Amidships, a large lifting shell door facilitates tender launching, with further guest balconies are located forward.

At the stern, an angled transom leads to a spacious fixed bathing platform, featuring a central stairway to the water's edge. The expansive beach club is unveiled when the large transom door rises. Split-level twin stairways ascend to the main deck aft—an extraordinary open guest space. A smaller arch, reminiscent of the commanding arch over the yacht's top, provides a band of shade over the glass-floored pool. The pool's glass bottom allows natural light to filter through to the beach club below. Surrounding the pool are extensive banks of sun pads, complemented by twin circular jacuzzi tubs and a U-shaped bar on the aft deck area.

At the rounded bow, dedicated space is allocated for anchoring and mooring operations, along with storage for personal watercraft, equipped with launching cranes. Additionally, guest space is available in this area, accessible via twin stairways set at a 90-degree angle to the yacht's line. These stairways lead to wide decks with protruding side balconies before extending to the aft decks. The reverse angle of the glazing on this deck contrasts with that of the higher deck level glazing, adding visual interest to the design.

Interior Design

Due to the owner's privacy and the exclusive nature of the yacht, interior photographs are not available to the public, and renders are also not accessible. However, it is speculated that Australian designer Marc Newson, who designed the exterior, may have also influenced or directly contributed to the yacht's interior design.

Accommodation

The superyacht Solaris offers accommodation for up to 36 guests across 18 staterooms. Additionally, it provides accommodation for 60 crew members to ensure full guest service. 

Performance & Capabilities

Solaris is propelled by eight MTU engines, collectively generating a power output surpassing 14MW, facilitating speeds exceeding 18 knots. Additionally, equipped with the twin ABB Azipod system boasting a combined output of 9MW, Solaris features the most potent electric drive system ever installed in a private yacht at the time of her build.

Amenities

A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. Waterfront living can be enjoyed to the fullest, thanks to a large beach club and connecting swim platform with plenty of space for sitting back and admiring the sea views. The yacht features a tender garage with storage for a range of toys and accessories. An elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible, while air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort and underwater lights will turn plenty of heads when the sun goes down. The sundeck is the social hub of the yacht, with a deck jacuzzi for cooling off and an inviting spread of sunpads.
