Delivered in 1998, Sussurro is a 162'5" motor yacht built by Dutch shipyard Feadship. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Terence Disdale, while De Voogt is responsible for her naval architecture.

Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 27'7" beam and a 6'8" draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 480 GT (Gross Tonnes).
She was delivered to her owners in November 1998.
Exterior Design
Sussurro's profile is sleek and purposeful, with its raised pilothouse design not only serving as a commanding vantage point but also adding to the yacht's dynamic aesthetic. The vessel's hard-chine planing hull, designed by naval architect Don Shead in collaboration with Feadship's in-house team, exhibits a fine entry forward that transitions to a flatter aft section, culminating in a 20-degree deadrise at the transom. This design choice ensures that Sussurro can glide across the water with minimal resistance, reaching exhilarating speeds of up to 43 knots.
Above the level of the wheelhouse windows, the superstructure is constructed from lightweight composites, aiding in the yacht's overall weight reduction without sacrificing durability or style. The exterior's fluid lines are complemented by substantial air intakes and exhausts necessary for the gas turbines, which have been thoughtfully integrated into the design by the renowned Terence Disdale Design studio, ensuring that functionality enhances rather than detracts from the yacht's visual appeal.
The full walk-around side decks on the main deck level epitomize practical elegance, providing easy and secure access to all outdoor areas. The sun deck, which houses a pair of wing stations adjacent to the bridge, serves as a central hub for relaxation and socializing, complete with sunbeds, a bar, and a barbecue. This thoughtful layout seamlessly transitions from leisurely lounging to an operational command center when speed and precision are of the essence.
Sussurro's aft deck area offers a spacious and well-equipped diving platform that overhangs the water-jet nozzles. Divers and water enthusiasts will appreciate the ease of access to the water, whether by tender or via the built-in ladder that leads directly to the sea. The adjacent shaded relaxation area, with its table, loose chairs, and cushioned seating, presents an inviting space for guests to unwind or dine al fresco, all while being cradled by the vessel's curved bulwarks.
Interior Design
The design directive was to evoke a 'primitive' style, richly interspersed with ethnic art, which Disdale and his team executed flawlessly. They embarked on a global expedition, sourcing artifacts and inspiration from South Africa to the Philippines, amassing an eclectic collection that would ultimately breathe life into the interior spaces of Sussurro. Every item onboard is a dialogue between artisanal craftsmanship and the intricate design narrative that Disdale envisioned.
The main saloon, partitioned into a study, lounge, and dining area, serves as a testament to this ethos. Here, the ambience is shaped by a confluence of textures and materials, from crushed bamboo finishes on deckheads and walls to inlays of kirkstone and parchment-covered furniture, all illuminated by state-of-the-art fiber optics. The saloon is a sanctuary where guests can immerse themselves in comfort, surrounded by tribal art and custom joinery that speak to an unparalleled level of bespoke luxury.
Sussurro's diving room is located astern of the engine rooms and houses an extensive array of diving equipment, including storage for nitrogen bottles, an oxygen generator for nitrox gas production, and a workshop for gear maintenance—all integrated into a designer space that doubles as a steam bath for post-dive relaxation.
Accommodation
The yacht is designed to accommodate up to 10 guests, ensuring a private and exclusive experience on the open water. Guest accommodations are spread across a master stateroom and four additional guest cabins. The master stateroom, situated on the main deck, offers a spacious sanctuary with its full-width bedroom. It boasts an adjoining dressing room and an expansive bathroom complete with an oversized shower.
On the lower deck, guests will find four well-appointed staterooms, two of which are large twins featuring additional Pullman beds, perfect for accommodating families or additional guests. The other two cabins comprise another twin and a double, slightly smaller yet still generous in size and amenities. Each cabin is thoughtfully designed, with striking architectural elements that extend into the shower rooms, creating a sense of cohesion and space.
While the focus on guest comfort is apparent, crew accommodations for up to 12 are equally well-considered, ensuring that every member aboard Sussurro is catered for with the same attention to detail and quality.
Performance & Capabilities
The Sussurro, Feadship's audacious foray into high-speed luxury yachting, is a marvel of engineering and design. At her core, the propulsion system is a symphony of power and precision. With a pair of Paxman 12V PI85 diesel engines, each producing 3,442 horsepower, Sussurro exhibits robust and reliable cruising capabilities. These engines are turbocharged and aftercooled, exhibiting Feadship's commitment to efficiency and power.
However, it is the inclusion of dual Textron Lycoming TF40 gas turbines that sets Sussurro apart. Each of these turbines adds an astonishing 8,000 horsepower, while their lightweight build, at a mere 650 kilograms, contrasts starkly with the heft of equivalent diesel engines. This lightweight design is a pivotal factor in Sussurro's remarkable performance.
A custom-built Cincinnati gearbox, although weighing 5,000 kilograms, partners seamlessly with the turbines to reduce their high output revolutions to an operational 900rpm. This is then directed to the centrally positioned Lips LJ-110DL water jet, which is a critical component in achieving the yacht's top speeds.
When powered solely by diesel, Sussurro glides through the waters at 28 knots, but her full potential is unlocked when the gas turbines are engaged, reaching a top speed of 46 knots. It's important to note that such speed comes at a cost, with fuel consumption around 3,000 liters per hour at top speed. This translates to a range of 700 nautical miles from her 43,000-liter fuel tanks. However, by reducing the pace to a more leisurely 13 knots on diesel power alone, her range can be extended significantly to 1,800 nautical miles.
Innovation extends to Sussurro's stabilization system, which forgoes traditional fin stabilizers in favor of Vosper Thorneycroft active trim-tab stabilization. This system combines the benefits of a transom-mounted trim-tab and stabilizers, adjusting the attitude of the yacht while controlling the roll by operating the tabs independently. The result is a stable and comfortable ride at speeds of up to 18 knots. Beyond this speed, the inherent stability of Don Shead's planing hull design ensures a smooth experience, even when the yacht is cutting through the water at 40 knots.
