Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 44'3" beam and a 13'5" draft. The yacht is built over 5 decks with an internal volume of 2,562 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in late 2017. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in December 2020 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in April 2021.
Exterior Design
ZEN, designed by De Voogt, boasts a sleek profile with a vertical bow and four clean decks, embodying the classic Feadship charm. Originally Project 816, the yacht features a steel hull and aluminum superstructure.
On the lower deck, the full transom lowers to create a spacious beach club, with side balconies providing versatility and additional private areas. The aft decks are elongated to create expansive entertainment and relaxation areas, with a pool inset on the main deck above the beach club providing an easy link between the pool and the sea. An enclosed tender garage keeps all tenders and water toys out of sight.
Three further decks provide lounging and dining spaces with illuminated curved open staircases creating easy access throughout the yacht. The symmetry of the yacht's decks creates an uncluttered feel. The expansive aft area of the owner's deck leaves the forward zone to be one of privacy directly, from the owner's cabin where the suite has been designed to provide twin dressing areas, an art studio, and a large bedroom looking forward onto a jacuzzi deck and lounging area.
A helipad, on the main deck forward, is included for ease of transfers and guest convenience.
The bridge deck provides a further expansive seating area leading to the dining and salon areas extending to the wheelhouse where a captain's cabin is strategically placed.
ZEN's exterior features smooth lines and abundant glass, allowing natural light to flood the interior. Aft of amidships, the superstructure sharply angles forward to connect the lower and main decks, creating a sense of sleek movement through the water and hinting at performance in the design.
Interior Design
FM Architettura, in collaboration with Nauta Yacht, spearheaded the space planning, layout, and full interior architecture and design. Renowned for their Italian craftsmanship and heritage, the Milan-based company leverages a team of 200 skilled artisans to craft exquisite interiors, utilizing materials like titanium and carbon fiber with striking finesse. Their approach involves creating textured and layered interiors that captivate interest, employing muted natural tones to effectively enhance the play of natural light streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The main deck hosts a circular dining area, featuring a dining table comfortably accommodating 12 guests. Positioned on a circular carpet base against brushed wooden floors, the design is harmonious and inviting. Above, a reflective illuminated inset showcases a four-layer chandelier, serving as a captivating centerpiece over the table. Marble graces the walls in the hallways, contributing to an understated elegance within the overall stylish and simple design.
The salons exude a relaxed and comfortable ambiance, incorporating darker wood for shelving, creating a contrast against textured doors adorned with stylish burnished bronze door furniture. Low seating in neutral tones is complemented by cushions in warm blues and patterns, adding visual interest against deliberately plain materials. Warm illumination permeates the space through ceiling-coving lighting, enhancing the overall inviting atmosphere. The design incorporates curved corners, bringing a natural flow throughout the area. Furniture, characterized by its simple style, is carefully balanced against bespoke cream-patterned carpets, contributing to an understated yet sophisticated aesthetic.
The cinema space on the lower deck is set with rich wood and textured panels, featuring deep curved sofas and accented brown cushions that intensify the neutral beige palette. Moving up to the poker room on the main deck, tones of red are introduced, with various pops of color through ornaments and books, creating a laid-back, lived-in vibe with large window and balcony to welcome fresh air. Cream soft furnishings and carpets contribute to the cozy atmosphere.
To ensure accessibility throughout ZEN, a circular glass staircase wraps around a glass elevator, featuring open-tread soft steps and a pale wood balustrade that gracefully sweeps around the central elevator. In the hallways, textured walls provide a marked contrast to the softer designs within the relaxation and social areas. Here, the lines are straighter, and the design adopts a more geometric approach. The corridors within the guest areas follow suit, with textured wall patterns creating a focal point against the brown and cream walkway, imparting a modern and sophisticated feel to the surroundings. The interior design of ZEN expertly blends luxurious comfort with contemporary aesthetics, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere throughout.
Within the wellness areas, the interior design epitomizes the very essence of spa relaxation. Darker, heavily grained wood complements the lighter wood of the doorway, while textured oatmeal carpets, elegantly surrounded by wooden skirting, showcase the meticulous attention to detail in the overall design.
A notable focal point is a large circular wall covering in soothing shades of cream and light brown. This intricate design reflects a very Zen-like environment, contributing to a sense of tranquility and calm. A backdrop of textured pale gold completes the sublime ambiance. The use of tall black lanterns against the dark wood by the spa pool area provides a contrast to great effect.
Venturing into the wellness area of the beach club with fold-down balconies, the simplicity of the sun loungers on the teak deck creates a serene environment by the water's edge. The design, unfussy and straightforward, allows for an uncomplicated and relaxing experience. A deeply-grained dark wood shower panel establishes a distinct zone against the white superstructure, adding a touch of sophistication to the space. The introduction of highlights in turquoise provides a vibrant and refreshing splash of color against the oatmeal sun pad cushions.
The main deck dining area features laminated teak basket-weave chairs as stylish signature pieces. Positioned around a circular table, this arrangement extends to provide comfortable seating for up to 12 guests. Aft of the relaxed dining area, the jacuzzi space is generously supported by inviting cushions in a soothing pale neutral color. Here, the addition of turquoise and white cushions provides a striking contrast, reminiscent of the ocean's hues.
Flexible modular seating was chosen for the covered deck lounging areas, with large volume cushions resting on afrormosia wooden slats. The color palette introduces a touch of deep red alongside other neutral tones, adding a tasteful accent that complements the overall design. A variety of loungers and sofas, alongside the modular furniture, provide the guests with the flexibility to relax as they wish.
