Fledgling British yard Arksen has announced it has sold the second hull of its flagship Arksen 85 explorer yacht.
Project Pelagos is currently in build at the Wight Shipyard in Cowes, on the Isle of Wight. The 26.2m (85ft) vessel will be marked by the same qualities as its predecessor Project Ocean, including a 7,000nm oceangoing range and a customizable design.
We didn’t want to be just another boatbuilder, we want to provide our owners with the opportunity for life-enhancing experiences.

“I recall my very first conversation with the new owner of Project Pelagos,” said Arksen Head of Sales, John Solomon. “As he described the key criteria for his family’s next vessel and the adventures that they wished to undertake, it quickly became clear to both he and I that the Arksen 85 was an ideal fit. He wanted to achieve trans-ocean cruising, high efficiency, the ability to explore high and low latitudes, easy operation, and low maintenance while having the latest proven and reliable technology.
“Central to the final decision was Arksen’s ability to personalize the vessel, and so we made significant customizations, including changes to the cabin layout and interior finish. We work closely with our clients, designers and systems engineers to create a personalised solution that results in something truly bespoke.”
Offering accommodation for 12 guests across six cabins, the Arksen 85 can claim to be a true global explorer, designed to access remote areas of the globe. On-board systems allow for operation in a wide range of conditions including high latitudes, tropical climates and adverse weather as well as extended periods in remote regions without external support.
In common with the first Arksen 85, whose hull and superstructure was constructed from recycled aluminum, Project Pelagos also has a strong environmental focus. Her light and airy interiors for example have been selected to enhance the experience onboard, while at the same time minimizing damage to the environment where possible.
“We didn’t want to be just another boatbuilder, we want to provide our owners with the opportunity for life-enhancing experiences to help foster a greater connection between humanity and the ocean” explained Jasper Smith, Arksen’s Chairman. “With a more sustainable approach in design, construction and operation of our vessels, we strive to be part of the important transition within the marine industry.”
Project Pelagos is expected to be on the water in just over a year’s time and a third hull of the Arksen 85 is scheduled to start construction, with delivery available late in Summer 2023.
Arksen was only founded in 2018 and the Arksen 85 is its flagship model. Its range of marine exploration vessels also includes the Arksen 45, Arksen 60 and Arksen 75. If you are interested in a similar yacht with a long-range and serious ocean-going capabilities browse all explorer yachts for sale.
