Feadship explorer SHINKAI launched in Holland

Dutch shipyard Feadship has successfully launched motor yacht SHINKAI, its latest explorer yacht, offering Polar capabilities and new innovations for improved performance.

Launched at the Feadship facility in the Netherlands, the explorer yacht SHINKAI measures 54.9m (180ft) in length with a beefy gross tonnage of 974GT.

Primarily designed for polar exploration, the custom yacht SHINKAI is currently on schedule for a 2021 delivery to her new owner, who has “extensive plans for touring the globe".

Designed in collaboration with Philippe Briand for the exterior lines and Vitruvius Yachts Ltd for the naval architecture, explorer yacht SHINKAI follows on from Feadship's award-winning 58m motor yacht NAJIBA

Feadship is quoting an estimated range of 5,500 nautical miles, giving the yacht trans-ocean capability, with early test data indicating a maximum speed of 14.5 knots, cruising at 12 knots.

As a true ocean-going explorer yacht SHINKAI offers long-term self-sufficiency as well as eco-awareness, demonstrated in features such as increased fuel efficiency, low emissions and large tank capacities.

In a movement to improve performance and safety, Feadship is also claiming to have installed its largest-ever gyroscopic stabilization system, instead of the traditional fins.

Resulting in the reduced risk from underwater ice damage in arctic terrains, the replacement of stabilizer fins also reflects intentions to avoid any environmental damage during worldwide voyages.

Interiors, which are yet to be revealed, are the creation of Danielle Boutsen of Boutsen Design. As the only yacht in the order books for collaboration with Boutsen, the end result is currently left to speculation.

As what is assumed to be the “most luxurious expedition yacht” being added to the Feadship fleet, SHINKAI promotes the facility to host a range of heavy toys for exploration, including a submarine and limousine tender

Launched by an integrated crane, the Owner can also carry their car onboard for convenient adventures in new destinations.

Previously known as Feadship Project 708 and Vitruvius No. 8, motor yacht SHINKAI is now undergoing outfitting stages prior to her delivery.
