Vripack has expanded its popular range of SUV-styled yachts to include two new models.
The Dutch design studio set about sketching ideas to build upon the success of its 24m (79ft) explorer yacht ROCK, of which the third hull has just begun construction. The result is the 33m (108ft) Rock XL, on which construction has now started, and the even larger 42m (138ft) Big Rock which will follow shortly afterwards.
Maintaining the robust and spacious nature of her predecessor, Rock XL’s extra nine meters allow for the inclusion of an enlarged sky lounge with access to a swimming pool and lounge area on the sky deck.
Inside the increased size boasts a number of benefits. Guest cabins on Rock XL are around 50 per cent bigger than onboard ROCK, whilst the Owner’s quarter is more than double in size and comprises a private spa, gym, office, bedroom and terrace area.
The 265GT interior also allows for more storage space in the bow, improved crew quarters and a 5.6m (18ft) tender on the transom.

Rock XL will be built by Turkish shipyard Evadne, who is also responsible for the build of the original model in the series. Like her predecessor, Rock XL will also feature a strong focus on sustainability, including an on-board lithium-ion battery pack.
The original ROCK was delivered in 2018, and Vripack designer Robin de Vries explains how it has influenced the new project:
“The original ROCK is now owned by a Swiss client who gets heavy use out of the yacht,” he says. “They are on board for six months of the year and treat it as their home at sea. The bonus for us is that all of the Owner’s feedback that we receive is implemented in the subsequent designs and build.”
“We took all the key elements of the 24m ROCK and made it bigger and better. That may sound simple, but at the core of that premise is an evolved owner and guest experience.”
Vripack’s proven engineered platform is good news for anyone looking to buy a new yacht as Rock XL will benefit from a shortened build time estimated at 16 months. Details of 42m (138ft) Big Rock are expected to follow in the near future.
The Dutch design studio has been involved in the design of over 60 yachts in the past 25 years, ranging in length from 23.9m (78.5ft) to the 70m (230ft) superyacht FELIX. Another five Vripack designed superyachts are due for delivery in 2021.
The SUV-explorer style of Rock XL is one of the latest design genres to emerge in the yachting world. It derives from the powerful lines of an explorer yacht and delivers a lot of space and a smooth ride.
