Tim Heywood Design

The sleek and feminine lines of British-based Tim Heywood’s work have graced the biggest and most recognisable custom superyachts, as well as ranges of iconic production yachts.

After graduating from the Central School of Art and Design, Tim Heywood was introduced to Jon Bannenberg, whom he worked for for over twenty years, before going solo in 1996. Solo is perhaps not quite the most accurate word - his design studio is made up of a team of two - Tim and his partner Vanessa!

Tim concentrates solely on exterior design and his work is held in high esteem by many of the world’s biggest shipyards - Lurssen and Amels in particular being regular collaborators.

Among his designs are the sixth-largest superyacht currently on the sea - the 147m (482’) Lurssen A+, the elegant 115m (377’) Pelorus, one of the most luxurious Lurssens ever to take to the water - the 101.5m (333’) Symphony and the 85.6m (280’) Aquila from Derecktor Shipyards, the largest new-built boat in the US to date.

One of his most significant collaborations was when he designed the Amels Limited Editions range. Now in six sizes it includes the 55m LE180, one of the most popular yachts for sale more than 24 units have been delivered since its inception in 2011.

The 62.4m Amels Limited Edition 199 superyacht Event, which was delivered in 2013, is the perfect example of the flowing, graceful lines, which are somewhat of a trademark of Tim Heywood’s work.

Taking inspiration from nature, engineering and transport, as well as a range of architectural eras, Tim Heywood is not afraid to push the envelope in his designs. He once said that when his ideas are met with “we think that is a problem”, he simply says: “That’s not a problem - consider it a challenge”.
