Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement ice class steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 73'6" beam and a 19'4" draft. The yacht is built over 9 decks with an internal volume of 13,564 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
Construction started in mid 2006 with the keel laid under the project name 'Eclipse'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in June 2009 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in October 2010.
Exterior Design
Created by Terence Disdale Design, Eclipse's exterior has intricate detail and innovative construction, setting Eclipse apart from other yachts. Terence Disdale conceptualized and styled the exterior lines from the waterline up, resulting in a vessel that impresses with both luxury & elegance.
One of the most striking features is the harmonious balance between her interior & exterior spaces. Her 22-metre (72.2ft) beam provides high overheads more typical of great houses than yachts. The deck-to-deck level change is managed by unique halfway landings on the exterior staircases, adding distinctive charm and character.
The external area around the swimming pool features a spacious 3.2-metre (10.5ft) overhead, creating an inviting space for relaxation & entertainment. The pool itself, with a blue granite floor, can transform into a shallow wading pool or a dance floor at flush-to-deck height. This area is further enhanced by a sliding glass sunroof, offering shade for poolside lunches.
Transportation aboard Eclipse is unparalleled. She can land two helicopters & house one in an enclosed hangar in the bow. The principal helipad on the top deck allows guests to step directly into a comfortable heli-lounge before catching the lift to their accommodation. The foredeck design enables easy landing & manoeuvring of aircraft.
A unique wood-burning fire table set in an area of stone decking offers a delightful setting for social occasions under the moon and stars.
Interior Design
The objective behind Eclipse's design was to create an appearance of timeless elegance. This led to a yacht that is graceful, lean & strong but also feminine. The avoidance of extreme styling for its own sake resulted in a yacht that is both striking and refined.
Space is a key element of luxury, and the interior of Eclipse reflects this. The layouts of deck-by-deck, the superstructure and decks access, along with the positioning of windows & exterior sightlines, resulted in a seamless plan. The yacht's wide beam allowed for the creation of lounges with generous headroom, resulting in delightfully high overheads more typical of grand homes than yachts. The main deck lounge & dining room, for instance, boast a ceiling height of 2.8 metres (9.2ft).
Expanding upon a 'beach house concept', the beach club has been designed as a destination within the yacht itself. Among its features is a 15-metre (49.2ft) swimming pool, with a blue granite floor that can be raised to create a shallow wading pool for children or, at flush-to-deck height, a dance floor. A sliding glass sunroof above the pool deck allows for poolside lunches to be served in the shade.
The pool tank itself has four glass portholes on each side, providing a visual connection to the spa & the 77-square metre (829.9 sqft) gym facilities. The spa includes a massage room, a beauty salon, sauna, several shower areas & a plunge pool. Natural light from the pool's portholes infuses the space with gentle shades of blue, creating a serene & calming atmosphere.
Aft of the pool area, a beach platform measuring 20 by 10 metres (65.6 by 32.8ft) features pivoting folding staircases extending 1.5 metres (4.9ft) underwater. The stern sections include a slide-out barbecue & a bar hidden behind gullwing doors, served by an internal pantry.
The yacht's wheelhouse, decorated with charcoal-coloured leather & suede, is furnished with two large curved sofas, allowing guests to enjoy the control area's ambience. Central to the two prime interior decks are grand lobbies with limestone walls & Serpeggiante marble floors laid in a geometric pattern. To prevent confusion about what level guests are on, two different artists were commissioned to give each deck landing a unique identity.
Accommodation
Eclipse offers luxurious accommodations that are truly unparalleled in the yachting industry. With a staggering total of 18 guest cabins spread out over nine decks, Eclipse is designed to offer utmost comfort and privacy to each of its guests.
Materials used in the 18 guest suites include black wood with silver rubbed into the open grain, limed wenge, shrunken buffalo hide, composite fossil stone, and lacquered parchment, providing a tactile and visually pleasing contrast. The yacht's thoughtfully designed accommodation plan allows guests to conveniently access their suites directly from the top deck helipad via an elevator.
Eclipse is also capable of carrying up to 70 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience. Additionally, there is accommodation for up to 12 members of the owner's staff and security team.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel-electric Wartsila (VEM, synchron) 16-cylinder 8,717hp engines running at 180rpm, motor yacht Eclipse is capable of reaching a top speed of 21 knots, and comfortably cruises at 20 knots. With her 343,424 gallon fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 6,000 nautical miles at 21 knots making her well capable of long range and transatlantic voyages. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.
