Constructed in the utmost confidentiality, the 92.9m (305ft) three-masted sailing yacht EOS was built by the German shipyard Lürssen. The Bermuda rigged schooner exterior design is by Langan Design and the interior styling is by François Catroux.

Upon her launch, she held the title of the largest sailing yacht ever constructed by Lürssen and the largest in the world at the time, a title she held until 2017.

Key Features

  • Oval aft Jacuzzi
  • One of the world's largest private sailing yachts
  • Plenty of deck space for recreational activities
  • Eye-catching profile

Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement aluminum hull and superstructure she features a 13.5m (44.3ft) beam and a 5.5m (18ft) draft. The yacht is built over three decks with an internal volume of 1,517 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction took three years and the yacht embarked on sea trials in the months following its June 2005 launch. Ultimately, it was delivered to its American owners, Barry Diller, and his wife, Diane von Fürstenberg, in November 2006.

Exterior Design

Eos, with its distinctive deep dark blue hull, and towering sail rig, stands as a testament to luxury, and privacy, on the water. This superyacht, owned by media mogul Barry Diller and fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, remains as much an enigma as it did upon her launch. Little is in the public domain about the yacht which is only in private family use, yet, according to a 2007 article in Harper's Bazaar, the yacht features a figurehead of Diane von Fürstenberg sculpted by French-American artist Anh Duong.

The yacht's teak decks are supported by an aluminum hull and superstructure, and the towering 61m (200ft) masts reach the maximum allowable height, ensuring the yacht can navigate under bridges worldwide.

On the main deck of Eos, a large oval-shaped jacuzzi takes center stage, adorned with sun loungers sporting a timeless nautical stripe. The wooden elements are exquisite: deep, rich, and impeccably polished, maintaining a luxurious and inviting ambiance. The deck hardware for mooring, proudly displayed, not only serves its functional purpose but also underscores the yacht's identity as a working sailing vessel, contributing to the immersive atmosphere onboard.

Ascending from the lower deck, a sweeping open staircase captures attention, surrounded by a stylish arrangement of circular seating in natural tones. Warm brown cushions complement the cream seating against the cream and wood pillars, creating a harmonious and inviting space. The ceilings of the exterior areas, finished in highly polished wood, add sophistication to the overall design. The side decks, reminiscent of the grandeur of old steamer ships, boast a generous width. The teak deck guides guests under covered walkways, where supports offer occasional breaks in the panoramic views of the sea.

The yacht's sleek tenders, along with rescue vessels and liferafts, are strategically positioned on davits and slings across the upper deck. While a sailing yacht may never be devoid of rigging and deck hardware, Eos, one of the largest sailing yachts in the world, has been thoughtfully designed, ensuring that guests onboard experience a genuine connection with the yacht, immersing themselves in an authentic maritime environment.

In 2012, the yacht faced a significant challenge when a fire broke out onboard whilst her owners were on a visit ashore. Following this incident, extensive repairs were undertaken on the superstructure, restoring Eos to its pristine condition.

During a later refit from 2018 to 2019, Eos underwent a comprehensive rejuvenation. The Rodal rigs were expertly removed, repaired, and repainted to ensure both functionality and aesthetic appeal. The entire hull and superstructure received a fresh coat of paint, revitalizing the vessel's exterior. The tank arrangement underwent strategic reorganization, and the engines were efficiently overhauled to enhance performance.

Beyond enhancing aesthetics, the refit also addressed crucial onboard systems. The treatment unit and watermaker underwent servicing, ensuring optimal functionality. Navigation systems were upgraded to incorporate state-of-the-art equipment, aligning Eos with the latest technological advancements in maritime navigation.

In October 2023, Eos arrived at Lurssen's refit facilities in Hamburg for a comprehensive six-month overhaul and full servicing.
