Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 30'6" beam and a 10'2" draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 675 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in late 1999. Launched in April 2002 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in May 2002.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of Tales features a raked bow, providing a sleek and modern profile. Both the hull and superstructure are finished in white, creating a clean and cohesive look. Contrasting this, the boot top and the area below the waterline are painted black, adding a touch of distinction to the overall appearance. This straightforward color scheme emphasizes the yacht's streamlined and functional design.

Tales's forward main deck extends across the full beam, offering privacy and additional room for the owner’s quarters. The upper deck features walk-around side decks and a Portuguese bridge, leading to an unobstructed fore deck. The yacht's clean lines ensure no tenders obstruct the decks, with the main tender, a 6.7-meter Marlin, recessed on the port side of the upper deck.

The three deck levels are designed to provide large, open spaces without permanent fixtures, enabling multi-functional use, including a potential helipad aft of the radar arch. The spacious sun deck forward of the radar arch includes a spa pool and sunpad area, protected by glass windscreens. Awnings can be extended from the arch to provide shade over the oval dining table, with a lift transporting food and drink from the galley below.

The main deck aft serves as a thoroughfare in harbor and a shaded seating area at anchor, with access to the boarding and bathing platform via a double set of stairs. The lazarette includes a gym, accessible by a separate stairway from the deck.

Interior Design

The interior design of Tales focuses on creating a sophisticated and functional environment. The joinery throughout is crafted from matte-finished cherrywood, featuring subtle arched and fluted details that add a touch of refinement without being ostentatious. Off-white wool carpeting is used extensively, with a carved wave pattern to provide visual interest while maintaining a neutral backdrop.

The main deck saloon is positioned towards the aft end of the deck and is divided into three seating areas. Large windows can be covered by silk Roman blinds to manage sunlight. The principal seating area includes a sofa and armchairs centered around a large coffee table with a ceramic top featuring a dolphin motif. Additional seating includes two comfortable chairs made from coir rope and cane, along with an occasional table. A large plasma television is positioned at floor level, facing the sofa. Near the aft deck, four chairs around a games table provide another seating option. The saloon connects to the dining room via sliding shoji screen doors set into a double wall.

The dining room, forward of the main saloon, is highlighted by an oval table with brass inlay and piers that serve as display cases for illuminated ceramic urns. An overhead mirror adds a dramatic effect and enhances the feeling of space. The dining area is directly connected to the pantry and main galley, ensuring efficient service.

The upper deck saloon is a pleasant space equipped with sofas, armchairs, and a games table. While there is no bar, a nearby pantry ensures that service is always readily available. The hallway from the saloon leads forward past the captain's cabin and radio room to the bridge. Visitors to the bridge can sit on a leather sofa with an adjacent coffee table to observe the vessel's navigation.

The pantry next to the upper lobby supports quick and efficient service, facilitated by a food lift connecting to the galley. The upper deck is designed to accommodate flexible dining arrangements, with two circular tables and curved seats each capable of seating six people. A separate buffet bar is situated to one side, offering a spacious and informal setting for meals.

Accommodation

Tales can host a total of 12 guests across six well-appointed cabins. The full-beam owner's suite is situated on the main deck, providing ample space and privacy. The suite includes a walk-in wardrobe and a his-and-hers bathroom arrangement, featuring a bath in one section and a shower cubicle linking the two. The suite benefits from large oval windows that allow natural light to flood the space, filtered through silk roman blinds.

Immediately aft of the owner's suite is a VIP double stateroom, accessible from the main hallway. Although similar in size to the other guest staterooms, this room enjoys more natural light due to the large windows in the forward topsides. The en suite bathroom features a glass wall that allows guests to enjoy the view while bathing, which can be closed off with a blind for added privacy.

The remaining guest staterooms are located on the lower deck. There are four staterooms in total: two larger double staterooms, each occupying half the width of the hull and featuring en suite shower rooms; one additional double stateroom with an en suite shower room; and a twin stateroom with an en suite bathroom. All staterooms are equipped with top-quality entertainment centers, complete with flat-screen televisions and internet access points.

She is also capable of carrying up to 12 crew onboard. There are well-appointed twin cabins with en suite shower rooms located forward of the guest accommodation. The crew area includes a spacious mess and a fully equipped laundry, ensuring that the crew can operate efficiently and maintain high standards of service throughout the voyage.
