Lurssen seals deal on 25% Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven acquisition

World-renowned shipyard Lurssen has announced official approval to acquire a 25% share in Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven.

Making the announcement following the all-clear from Germany's national competition regulatory agency, the interest from Lurssen heightens hopes on the future of Bremerhaven after Lloyd Werft filed for bankruptcy in 2022.

Now joining the Gustav Zech Foundation and the Rönner Group as an active shareholder, the decision to approve the acquisition was reportedly down to the expectation that there are no significant changes coming to the yachting industry, with no conflict of interest posing an issue to the Lurssen bid.

The only real hurdle for the agreement not to go ahead would potentially have been the distinct similarity of the work by the Lürssen Group and the Rönner Group. However, reports from the Federal Cartel Office state that since Lloyd Werft had no current marine projects underway, the approval was able to proceed.

With Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven now being a close connection to Lurssen, the German shipyard will potentially have extra services close to hand, with Lloyd Werft facilities being used mostly for the maintenance and conversion of superyachts, merchant ships and cruise ships with LOAs up to 300m (984ft).

As well as the exciting developments for future construction projects, Lurssen has had a busy start to 2023 with the delivery of 146m (479ft) OPERA and 89.9m (294.9ft) NORN.
