The 52m (170.6ft) Amels 171 superyacht GRACE has returned to her home shipyard in the Netherlands for a four-month refit.
Twelve years on for her 2009 delivery GRACE is returning to Amel’s Vlissingen facilities to see a number of works taking place including a technical upgrade, complete hull respray and interior modification.
“It’s wonderful to see GRACE back at the yard,” says Damen Yachting Sales Manager Michel Coens, who knows the yacht well from her time during the original build. “Being able to welcome yachts and their crew from the fleet back to our yard is always a great honour. There is a real sense of pride in welcoming back one of our own and also having the opportunity to once again shape a yacht to the Owner’s wishes.”
He goes on to explain the additional added value of returning to the original builder. “The Owner and Crew know they are in safe and experienced hands. The entire team know the yacht inside out which is a big advantage. But, as always, the most important elements remain the genuine partnership and strong teamwork with the Owner’s team, the crew and our subcontractors.”
This continues a trend YachtBuyer has noticed of larger shipyards in particular carrying out refit work on their yachts. At the end of last year Lurssen redelivered its 110m (361ft) superyacht KAOS after an 18-month refit project that was the shipyard’s largest ever and more recently the classic Feadship AMARA returned to her home yard in the Netherlands for an extensive refit.
GRACE is part of the Dutch yard’s Amels 171 line, a series that evolved into the hugely popular Amels 180 Limited Editions design which went on to become the world’s best-selling 55m (180.5ft) superyacht.
The superyacht’s original interior was penned by Nuvolari and Lenard, with her exterior design coming from Tim Heywood. Naval architecture came from Damen Yachting. She can accommodate 12 guests across six staterooms and is characterized by wide open spaces, including a large swim platform and a panoramic sundeck with Jacuzzi, bar and al-fresco dining.
Amels Limited Edition range has become hugely successful thanks to its combination of custom and platform build techniques that can reduce delivery time to just a few months. The builder most recently announced the delivery of the second hull from its Limited Editions 200 series with two hulls of the new Amels 60 also looking set to be delivered by the end of 2022.
