Heesen has announced that its largest yacht to date, 80m (265ft) superyacht GALACTICA, has hit the water with her technical launch at its shipyard in Oss.
The 1,700GT yacht has been christened motor yacht GALACTICA and will not only be the Dutch yard’s flagship yacht upon her scheduled delivery in Spring next year, but she will also be the biggest and fastest completely aluminum yacht ever built with a top speed of almost 30 knots.
“Today, we are celebrating the launch of a unique yacht,” said Heesen CEO Arthur Brouwer. “Unique not only for our shipyard, as she is the largest we have ever taken on and represents the pinnacle of our achievements to date. Cosmos is also unique in the industry - the largest and fastest aluminum yacht in her class ever built.”
Her eye-catching top speed has been achieved thanks to a lightweight and low-drag hull design, honed by Heesen’s naval architects and based on an iteration of van Oossanen’s Fast Displacement Hull Form. As part of the build process, Heesen’s engineering team also designed and patented the Backbone - an intricate, full-length structural reinforcement system. Power comes from a refined diesel propulsion system consisting of four engines, two gearboxes, variable-pitch propellers and ultra-innovative Promas rudders.
Heesen has also collaborated with Winch Design for superyacht GENESIS’ elegant exterior, replete with a sporty silhouette and extensive use of glass and Sinot Yacht Design and Architecture for her light and soothing interiors, characterised by subtle blue hues infused throughout the design.
Onboard highlights include a beach club with a backlit onyx bar, a glass-bottom pool with a waterfall effect and a fully-rated helideck that transforms into an open-air cinema. Superyacht GENESIS sleeps 12 guests across six cabins.

Superyacht GENESIS, also known as hull YN19480, was first announced in March 2018. A little over a year later, in May 2019, her keel was laid and in July 2020 it was revealed her hull and superstructure had been joined. She is expected to be delivered to her new Owner in April 2022.
Superyacht GENESIS will take the title from 70m (230ft) ‘Galactica Super Nova’ as Heesen’s largest yacht. The Dutch yard will hope she will have the same impact as the 2016 yacht which racked up five award wins and a further seven nominations.
Heesen also has a number of other sizeable superyachts in its order book. These include 66m (217ft) Project Avanti, 60m (197ft) motor yacht LUSINE, formally known as Project Falcon and which sports an eye-catching “bird’s wing” motif and 60m (197ft) Project Skyfall, another nimble superyacht with an estimated top speed of 37 knots.
