Sanlorenzo Yachts History & Heritage
The roots of the Sanlorenzo shipyard date back to 1958, originating in a small shipyard near Florence, Italy, founded by Gianfranco Cecci and Giuliano Peccia. However, it was Giovanni Jannetti who, upon acquiring the yard in 1972, steered the brand's course to success by relocating operations to Viareggio, Italy's yacht-building hub.
Initially focused on bespoke builds with low output, the pivotal year of 1985 marked a shift when Jannetti introduced a new GRP concept, unveiling the SL57 under the name Cantieri Navali San Lorenzo. The success of the SL57 paved the way for additional GRP models, leading to the introduction of the SL100 in 1995. As the SL range expanded, the need for new facilities arose, prompting the decision to relocate operations to La Specia, Liguria, in 1999.
In a transformative move, Massimo Perotti became the new owner of Cantieri Navali San Lorenzo, rebranding the yard as Sanlorenzo and establishing a second facility in Viareggio in 2007. This new shipyard marked the launch of the award-winning 40 Alloy in 2008, constructed from aluminum. The Alloy was joined by the 46 Steel in 2010, returning Sanlorenzo to its fabricated construction heritage.
Continuing its evolution, Sanlorenzo introduced the 46 EXP explorer-style yacht in 2015, contributing to a diverse lineup that now encompasses six ranges and approximately 17 models, solidifying its position as one of the world's leading producers of yachts exceeding 24m (79ft) in length.
