Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 19m beam and a 5.3m draft. The yacht is built over 6 decks with an internal volume of 7,922 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
She was delivered to her owners in May 2010.
Exterior Design
Katara has a distinctive raked bow and clamshell deck design by Espen Øinio. Strategically positioned tenders, rescue boats, and liferafts are on display alongside the main deck, ensuring they do not obstruct the generous covered walkways for ease of guest and crew access. The foredeck discreetly stores personal watercraft beyond the eye line of guests relaxing in an exterior salon area, featuring a small dining table for intimate gatherings, polished wood furniture, and inviting cream sofas.
A helipad on a grey landing platform is positioned at the aft sun deck, just forward of where a scalloped sunshade extends to protect the guest area below, supported by tubular steel supports. Here, sun pads and casual seating surround a jacuzzi. The decks are meticulously laid out to ensure shade and protection for the guest areas below, with prominent columns featuring glass surrounds integrated into floor-to-ceiling glass.
Given that the yacht is owned by the Qatari royal family, privacy is of utmost importance, with a focus on shielding guests using outdoor spaces from prying eyes. It's quite likely that the design incorporated swimming pools inside the yacht to ensure a high level of privacy for the occupants.
Interior Design
With very few interior images available in the public domain, the interior styling by the Persian designer Alberto Pinto is understood to be in a traditional style. Viewed in undisclosed images, the design features marble with golden accents, complementing furnishings from a neutral palette, and incorporating warm wooden tones. The use of these elements suggests a classic and sophisticated interior design, aligning with the traditional preferences of the late Alberto Pinto.
Accommodation
Katara offers accommodation for up to 34 guests in 18 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 95 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
