Design & Construction
Designed around a fast displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 11.9m beam and a 3.25m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 1,200 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a touch and go heli-pad.
Construction started in late 2013 with the keel laid under the project name 'Kometa'. Launched in March 2016 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in May 2016.
Exterior Design
One of the most notable aspects of Galactica Super Nova's exterior design is the additional five meters Øino devoted to lengthening the open decks. This not only enhances the yacht's streamlined profile but also creates more space forward for the tender garage and a multifunctional seating area. This innovative area can transform into an outdoor cinema or a helipad when required, demonstrating the thoughtful versatility embedded into the yacht's design.
Øino's attention to detail is evident in the harmony of the yacht's aesthetic elements. A grey stripe runs along the lower deck, mirroring the strong horizontal bar of black glass on the main deck. This amplifies the yacht's horizontal architectural speed lines, further emphasizing its sleekness and speed.
The fixed hardtop for the expansive sundeck is another standout feature of Galactica Super Nova's exterior design. Breaking away from the angles established below, Øino opted for a curved, open support arch, painted grey to blend seamlessly with the yacht's profile. This clever design trick minimizes the perceived height of the yacht while maximizing the usable space on the sundeck.
The sundeck itself, also designed by Øino, spans 92 square meters of walkable area and connects visually and physically to the open bow, adding another 65 square meters of space. The deck is equipped with removable railings for safety and hidden reinforcement for sturdiness, making it as safe for leisure use by guests as it is for an arriving helicopter.
The bow lounge area is designed with day and night use in mind. By day, carbon-fiber poles can be fitted into brackets to hold awnings, providing shade for a seating area that also includes the option for informal dining. At night, the poles can support a screen for movies or video playback of the day's activities. This area is wired for sound and can even be lit up, transforming Galactica Super Nova into a floating party venue.
Interior Design
Embodying opulence and elegance, the interior design of Galactica Super Nova truly encapsulates the essence of luxury yachting. The masterful work of Sander Sinot and his team, the interior exudes a harmonious blend of sophistication and comfort. The design team diligently utilized four types of wood - sycamore, two types of wenge, and teak - to bring warmth into the interior. The attention to detail is evident in the smooth, contemporary style of the paneling and cabinets that allow the richness and grain patterns of the wood to be the focal point. Complementing the wood, brushed and polished stainless steel accents add a modern flair throughout the yacht.
One of the most striking features aboard Galactica Super Nova is the central circular stairway. This architectural masterpiece showcases curved steps banded in steel strips that appear to originate from the central support post, wrap around the treads, and extend out to encircle the walls of the curved stair surround. This creates a stunning, organic feature that harmoniously integrates with the rest of the yacht's design.
The interior also boasts an impressive saloon fireplace, an innovative rendition of traditional fireplaces. This unique feature utilizes advanced "Opti Myst" technology, which uses ultrasonic technology to evaporate water and waft it past colored LED lights, creating a realistic illusion of 3D flames. This not only adds a cozy ambiance to the saloon but also eliminates the maintenance issues often associated with traditional fireplaces.
The main deck galley has a service pantry and despite the yacht's modest beam, the layout accommodates a pathway for the crew from their side deck entrance to their quarters below, ensuring they can move between without disturbing the kitchen. This area also houses three refrigerated wine caves, adding to the yacht's appeal for wine connoisseurs.
The beach club, another highlight of Galactica Super Nova's interior, offers a residential feel with a sofa, chairs, and emperador marble accents. A full bar equipped with a kegerator for the owner's favorite brew on tap, and a large head lined in tile and onyx that includes a steam room, adds to the comfort and luxury of this space.
Accommodation
The Galactica Super Nova is designed to provide a luxurious and unparalleled experience at sea. This yacht offers an array of luxurious accommodations designed to meet the needs of the most discerning guests.
One of the most impressive features of Galactica Super Nova is its ability to comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in its six exquisitely designed cabins. The master suite, located on the main deck, is a true sanctuary with its own distinctive cut of the decor's signature sycamore. The addition of straight-veined eramosa marble provides a contrasting element that echoes the straight grain of the sycamore, resulting in a harmonious blend of textures. A VIP suite is provided on the upper deck while four additional double cabins are on the lower deck. Each of these cabins are thoughtfully designed with the comfort of the guests in mind and feature state-of-the-art amenities for a truly luxurious stay.
Crew accommodation on Galactica Super Nova is equally impressive. The yacht is equipped to house a large crew of up to 16 to ensure every guest need is attended to in a timely and efficient manner. The crew quarters are designed with all the necessary facilities and are strategically located to ensure seamless service while maintaining guest privacy.
Performance & Capabilities
At the heart of Galactica Super Nova's performance lies an advanced propulsion system. The yacht's main power comes from two MTU diesal engines and fixed propellers that can accelerate the yacht to speeds above 20 knots. Once this speed is reached, a centerline booster engine coupled to a Rolls-Royce water jet can be engaged, allowing the yacht to achieve astonishing speeds of up to 30.3 knots. This high-speed performance does not compromise fuel efficiency. At a cruising speed of 12 knots, fuel consumption drops to a mere 660 litres per hour, offering a range of 4,000 nautical miles.
A key feature of Galactica Super Nova's performance is the Van Oossanen Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), which allows the yacht to behave like a displacement hull while still achieving impressive speeds. This unique design ensures that the stern does not sink at slow speeds, and the bow does not climb over its own wave. This feature, combined with automatic vertical interceptors that maintain the yacht's flatness while running, ensures a smooth and comfortable ride for all on board.
Notably, the yacht's engine room is the same size as that of its predecessor, Galactica Star, despite housing an extra engine. The efficient design of the engine room by Heesen showcases their attention to detail and commitment to maximizing the utilization of space.
The yacht's stability is further enhanced by Quantum XL fins, a more advanced alternative to traditional gyrostabilizers. These fins ensure that the yacht remains steady even at high speeds, guaranteeing a comfortable experience for guests.
