Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 8.83m beam and a 2.89m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 493 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in late 2006. Launched in October 2008 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in December 2008.
Exterior Design
Idefix II's exterior design incorporates several distinctive features that set it apart from other yachts in its class. The yacht's burgundy hull provides a striking visual contrast against the water. Notably, the owner has added two half-moon balconies to the bridge deck and sun deck, creating intimate sitting areas that enhance the yacht's aesthetic appeal.
The sun deck is well-arranged for both lounging and entertaining. A spa pool surrounded by sunpads is located aft, while a dining area and bar are positioned forward, offering views over the sea. The large fore deck lounge and bridge deck provide additional alfresco dining and socializing spaces.
The yacht's slender semi-displacement hull design prioritizes speed, which necessitated some compromises in the service areas. Despite this, the overall layout remains efficient and guest-centric, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience on board.
Interior Design
The interior design of Idefix II, crafted by London studio Intarya, draws inspiration from a Hamptons beach house aesthetic while maintaining a high level of sophistication. The main deck saloon features an airy ambiance achieved through an open floor plan and custom-designed, residential-style furnishings. The space is accented by bright, white paneling complemented by warm flooring finished in smoked oak veneer and covered by a loose wool durry-like flat-weave carpet with blue stripes. Handcrafted blue verre églomisé mirrored panels and fine art collected by the owners add interest and detail.
The main saloon includes a reproduction of an antique angel's wing, subtly referencing the yacht's name. A major challenge was adhering to weight restrictions, which was tackled by Intarya giving Heesen the weight of every item. The main dining table, a significant piece designed by Intarya, features a textured wood top inspired by railway sleepers, coupled with an ornate base and a distressed finish. Above it, a hand-blown Murano glass chandelier adds to the room's decor.
A distinctive three-storey stairway, lined with low-density panels hand-finished in a skin of liquid metal using a proprietary process by Based Upon, offers a lightweight yet visually appealing solution. The handrail is inset into the panels, maintaining the artistic motif of falling leaves without disrupting the design. The Based Upon studio also created a metal-clad mantelpiece for the fireplace in the master suite, which uses denatured alcohol for its flames, certified by the British MCA.
The galley, while lacking a pantry, is designed to maximize the available space, with the chef sharing worktop areas with the stewardesses during meal preparations. The working environment is functional, though somewhat limited by the yacht's slender semi-displacement hull design.
The media room on the main deck serves as a library, office, and cinema. It features a desk area for guest use and comfortable sofas facing a wide television screen and a Linn surround-sound stereo system. The room is equipped with broadband wireless Internet and VSAT communications, and entertainment can be managed via a Crestron remote that also controls the lights and window shades.
Accommodation
Idefix II can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests across six elegantly appointed cabins. The full-beam master suite is located on the bridge deck aft, a design choice that allows for enhanced privacy and expansive views. The suite features a king-sized bed oriented to face an outdoor alfresco dining area, which can be closed off for added seclusion.
The suite also includes a unique bathing area with an egg-shaped bath and a large shower cubicle, both adorned with Thassos white polished marble. Additional amenities in the master suite include a pop-up flatscreen television, a stereo system with an iPod dock, and a Crestron touchscreen for controlling entertainment and other suite functions. The suite is divided into 'his' and 'her' areas, with 'her' area featuring a dressing table and shoe racks, and 'his' area doubling as an office with a walk-in wardrobe.
Situated on the main deck forward, the VIP suite boasts generous windows, providing ample natural light and stunning sea views. This suite features a large en-suite bathroom finished in marble and equipped with a Dornbracht BigRain shower head.
The lower deck houses four additional guest cabins. Three of these cabins feature queen-sized beds, while the fourth includes twin beds. Each cabin is equipped with an en-suite bathroom, maintaining the yacht's high standard of luxury and comfort.
She is also capable of carrying up to nine crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
Performance & Capabilities
Powering Idefix II are twin MTU 16V 4000 M90 engines, each capable of propelling her to an impressive top speed of 24 knots. This considerable power output ensures that guests can swiftly traverse vast stretches of ocean, reducing transit times and broadening the scope of possible itineraries. The engines are not only powerful but have also been chosen for their reliability and efficiency, which are paramount to Idefix II's performance.
The yacht's cruising speed is comfortably set at 18 knots, an ideal pace that allows guests to enjoy the journey as much as the destination. At this speed, Idefix II demonstrates a harmonious balance between velocity and stability, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable ride for all on board.
When it comes to range, Idefix II does not disappoint. With her 68,800-litre fuel tanks, she has a maximum range of 3,915 nautical miles at 12 knots. Her fuel capacity is judiciously balanced with engine efficiency, enabling her to cover significant distances without the need for frequent refueling stops. This extended range opens up a world of remote and exotic locales for guests to explore, unbound by the limitations of lesser vessels.
Stabilization is a critical aspect of any luxury yacht, and Idefix II is equipped with state-of-the-art stabilizers. These active systems work to minimize the roll of the yacht both at anchor and while underway, providing an exceptionally stable platform that enhances guest comfort. The incorporation of these modern stabilizers is particularly beneficial when the yacht is at rest in idyllic coves or pristine bays, ensuring that tranquility aboard is undisturbed by the sea's motion.
Amenities
In addition, a swim platform provides easy access to the ocean. The yacht features a tender garage with storage for a range of toys and accessories. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Crowning the yacht is a spacious sundeck with an inviting spread of sunpads and deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
