Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 35'5" beam and a 12'2" draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 1,200 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in mid 2004 with the keel laid under the project name 'Nirvana; Teddy'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
Designed by Terence Disdale, the yacht features a sleek profile, with a high bow rising to bridge deck level and a well-proportioned superstructure set aft and encircled by side decks at both levels.
The white hull is accentuated by a striking black bootstrap, defining the water's edge, while numerous portholes allow natural light to flood the lower deck accommodation areas. Occasional openings along the gunwales on the main deck level and large sections of vertical glazing on the forward main deck enhance the yacht's modern aesthetic. The foredeck boasts a prominent light mast and serves as a functional storage space for tenders, complete with a launching crane. Clean and uncluttered lines extend aft to a sharp stern, where a central transom door reveals stowage for personal watercraft.
The expansive sun deck, bridged by its arch mast, spans 27.5m x 6m, offering everything needed for a day in the sun. A raised spa pool and a larger swimming pool with water jets provide ample relaxation options, while a full-service bar sits beneath the shade of the mast. The deck design also features a large flatscreen television that folds down from the mast's underside. Casual dining and lounging areas can be found aft, with provisions for helicopter landing when needed.
The bridge deck aft is ideal for large-scale entertaining, with a spacious area that can be sheltered from the wind by extending glass sides. A vast dining table, capable of seating up to 18 guests comfortably, dominates the space. Additional seating options can accommodate up to 52 diners by extending into the adjacent bridge deck saloon. A further dining area is located one deck below on the aft portion of the main deck.
Interior Design
The interior design of yacht Maria reflects the owner's desire for calm, cool, and understated comfort, meticulously executed by Terence Disdale. The main saloon emanates tranquility, with off-white tones of furniture and carpeting harmonizing beautifully with honey-colored oak carpentry. Crafted by specialist yacht furniture makers Metrica, the woodwork, adorned with delicate vertical reeding, lends an air of sophistication.
Soft, diffused light permeates the space through oak-slatted venetian blinds, casting a serene ambiance throughout. This gentle illumination, combined with off-white finishes on carpets, deckhead, and upholstery, creates an overwhelming sense of calm that extends seamlessly throughout the yacht.
In the forward part of the saloon, an intriguing dining table with a scalloped form and silver leaf overlay provides a focal point, while deep-seated sofas and chaise longues in the aft portion offer a relaxed conversation area. Entertainment is seamlessly integrated, with a large flatscreen television rising at the touch of a Crestron control screen, complemented by surround-sound and home theatre systems.
The upper saloon mirrors the tranquility of the main deck, with sitting and dining areas reversed in size. Notably, it can be united with the adjacent gymnasium by raising a shoji screen set in the forward bulkhead.
Continuing the oak-based decorative scheme, the entrance lobby leads to the winding passageway to the master suite. The suite impresses with its expansive size and elegantly pale furnishings, complemented by warm-toned luxury marble in the main bathroom.
The yacht's remaining guest cabins, entered from a lower deck lobby, maintain the yacht's decorative theme, offering well-sized accommodations with individual touches such as different-colored bedspreads. Practical amenities, such as a refrigerator stocked with drinks and nibbles, ensure guest comfort throughout their stay.
Accommodation
Alongside the master suite, located at the forward end of the main deck and including a twin cabin with two additional Pullman berths, there are six more spacious double- and twin-bedded guest cabins on the lower deck. Collectively, they accommodate an additional ten Pullman berths. Therefore the yacht can accommodate a total of 28 guests and carry 34 guests at sea, a discrepancy considering her private yacht status and MCA compliance. However, this issue was resolved with the Cayman Island Flag Authority, which granted a dispensation for MCA status provided that sufficient lifesaving gear is carried on board for these guest numbers at all times.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3516B DI-TA) 2,230hp engines, motor yacht Maria is capable of reaching a top speed of 17 knots, and comfortably cruises at 15 knots. With her 44,064 gallon fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 5,250 nautical miles at an economic speed of 12 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.
Tenders
An 8.2m Aquamajestic 27 'Gentleman's Express' from Kencraft Marine in Australia and an 8.2m Novurania jet-powered RIB are sorted on the foredeck of yacht Maria. A 3.2-tonne crane with a 7m reach launches and recovers as required.
