Amels’ largest ever delivery, the 89m (292ft) superyacht ‘Here Comes the Sun’ has left Damen Yachting’s Vlissingen City shipyard following an extensive 16-month refit.
Before embarking on a global itinerary the Tim Heywood-designed motor yacht made a port call in London for her first public appearance outside of the Dutch yard’s facilities since her refit.
‘Here Comes the Sun’ certainly sports a very different look in comparison to the yacht that entered the Damen Yachting yard back in the summer of 2020, after undergoing what Amels has called “a complete transformation in size and style”.
The most noticeable changes have been a 6m (20ft) extension to the Main Deck aft, which has increased her size from 83m to 89m (272ft to 292ft) and her volume from 2827GT to 2977GT, and a vibrant new color scheme following a complete respray.
The size increase has also allowed for an extended sun deck aft with a helicopter landing area, two VIP suites with exterior balconies on the bridge deck aft and an enlarged beach club, spa facilities and a 7m (23ft) swimming pool.
Damen Yachting Project Manager Sander Peeters, who was present at the yard as ‘Here Comes the Sun’ set sail, said: “The refit of Here Comes the Sun was a very large scale and complex project. ‘Here Comes the Sun’ was originally delivered in 2017 and returned to Damen Yachting in 2020 under new ownership for an extensive refit. The Owner chose Azure Yacht Design, the yard’s original partner for the naval architecture, to re-pen the iconic Amels 272 model.
‘Here Comes The Sun’ will eventually be usurped from her position as the biggest Amels superyacht on the water. That position will be taken by the 120m (394ft) ‘Project Signature’, an ecologically friendly superyacht announced by Amels and Imperial Yachts, in conjunction with Damen Yachting, last September and due to be delivered in 2025.
