Heesen to start construction on first all-aluminum 57m superyacht

Project Akira is the first of the Dutch builder’s 57m (187ft) Aluminum Class and is set to be ready for delivery in 2024.

Construction on the first of Heesen’s new 57m (187ft) Aluminum Class is set to begin shortly, with the keel of Project Akira about to be laid.

The 780GT superyacht presents a unique opportunity for anyone looking to buy a new yacht. Heesen’s CEO Arthur Brouwer claims it will be the only 57m (187ft), all-aluminum fast motor yacht from Northern Europe available for delivery in Spring 2024.

The powerful, elongated exterior lines come from the pen of Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, whilst the harmonious interiors have been created by Harrison Eidsgaard. Heesen and van Oossanen have worked together on the naval architecture that sees Project Akira achieving a top speed of 22 knots with relatively small engines, twin MTU 16V 4000 M65Ls.

Project Akira offers plenty of exterior space. Tenders and toys are stored on the foredeck, leaving the beach club in the stern free for socialising and relaxing by the water, with a fixed swim platform providing easy access to the sea.

Inside the interiors are filled with light thanks to a combination of the use of reflective materials throughout, such as high glass sycamore, laminated glass and metallic mesh, and plenty of structural and decorative glass that offer long expansive views from any point on the yacht.

Accommodation is offered for 12 guests across six cabins, the highlight of which is a 62 square meter (667 sq. ft) Owner’s apartment forward on the main deck. Four double cabins can be found on the lower deck with a VIP cabin on the bridge deck. All decks are served by a glass elevator.

“Yacht connoisseurs understand how extraordinary it is to build a high-speed aluminium motor yacht. It takes exacting naval architecture, precision engineering, meticulous welding and rigorous weight control,” says Heesen CCO Friso Visser. “Few shipyards have the skills to do it. Even fewer can afford to risk it on a speculative build. At Heesen, we have the confidence that comes from the knowledge and experience of delivering outstanding performance yachts, year after year.”

According to YachtBuyer intelligence, the Dutch builder currently has 12 yachts in the order book, ready to be delivered over the next three years. They range from 50m (164ft) up to 80.7m (264.7ft) COSMOS which is due to be delivered next year.

Heesen’s popularity can be explained by the fact most of its builds are semi-custom projects based on pre-defined hull shapes, meaning potential owners can expect a shorter than normal delivery time, with a good degree of customization still being available above the water.
