Extraordinary Yacht Helms at Monaco Yacht Show 2024

Ensuring the helm is as efficient as it is attractive is crucial in modern yacht design. YachtBuyer outlines some of the top helms presented at MYS 2024.

As the Monaco Yacht Show 2024 continues, YachtBuyer takes a look at the standout yacht helms on display, focusing on their ergonomic designs, advanced control panels, and elegantly upholstered captain's chairs.

This year's event hosts some of the world’s finest superyachts and boats, each showcasing an exquisite helm (or two) that combines functionality with style.

Pershing GTX116

The lower helm found on the Pershing GTX116 screams innovation. Two doors, one from the salon and one from the galley, lead to the yacht's command center which is framed by a gigantic windscreen that spans the full five-meter width of the superstructure to deliver excellent views forward.

I thought the TYDE had the coolest helm station I'll ever see, but that's quite quickly been superseded by this. This is a rocket ship in every sense."

The Pershing GTX116 helm station screens run almost the entire width of the beam
The Pershing GTX116 pilot seat features a carbon fiber construction, complete with all the screens, buttons, joystick and controls

The carbon fiber pilot seat, upholstered in black leather, benefits from supportive bolsters, and situated just beneath your hands are the joystick, thrusters, small screens, and buttons to control all of the yacht's movements and systems. To the port side of the skipper's seat is a twin-sofa-style bucket seat to enable guests to enjoy the ride in tandem.

Complementing the seating is a futuristic and sleek helm console, and the onboard instrumentation exceeds Pershing's high standards, delivering the very latest and advanced maritime technology — the top-choice version being equipped with the latest-generation ultra-wide Navico-Simrad screens for precise navigation.

The Pershing GTX116 is being exhibited by the Ferretti Group at L10 (JETEE LUCCIANA).

Tecnomar Lamborghini 63

At the helm of the Tecnomar Lamborghini 63, the Lamborghini influence is evident. The steering wheel is (yes you guessed it) from a Lamborghini Huracán road car, and the large screen also features graphics identical to those found in the manufacturer's supercars. High-backed, sculpted carbon fiber chairs offer comfort and support, with the Raging Bull logo stitched into the headrests.

The helm's design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional. The driving position integrates the skipper into the boat, with extensive adjustability on the seat, ensuring the Alcantara-covered wheel and compact throttles are within easy reach. The elevated seat position also provides a clear view of the sleek foredeck.

The Tecnomar Lamborghini 63 helm console utilizes parts straight from the manufacturer's supercars including the steering wheel and screens

More glorious detailing when it comes to the seating — the carbon fiber work is just stunning. The Lamborghini bull etched into the back of the seats…and of course all of the Lamborghini touchpoints at the helm station.”

The dashboard is minimalist and devoid of unnecessary buttons, which enhances the impact of the two prominent rocket launcher switches. Beneath these switches lies the ignition button for the twin 2,000hp engines, and lifting the red cover and pressing the button brings all 24 cylinders to life.

The drive mode control, also adapted from Lamborghini road cars, allows you to switch between three modes: docking, cruising, and all-out performance. Only in 'Corsa' mode do the engines unleash their full 4,000hp potential.

The Tecnomar Lamborghini 63 is being exhibited by The Italian Sea Group at R07 (QUAI RAINIER IER).

Damen Yachting Xplorer 58: PINK SHADOW

When stepping onto the bridge aboard explorer yacht PINK SHADOW, it's easy to think you might be in the wrong place, surrounded by jungle-inspired wallpaper, brass railings, elegant storage cabinets, and brightly colored furnishings. This is, however, the right place and the helm of the Damen Yachting support vessel might just be one of the most spectacular superyacht helms ever created.

“There’s something very special about the bridge on PINK SHADOW. It’s innovative and undisturbed, ridiculously comfortable, and looks like something out of Star Trek.”

PINK SHADOW

Located either side of the pilot seat are bright yellow sofas overlooking the ocean through large floor to ceiling windows

Yacht PINK SHADOW draws design cues from the owner's favorite film, Fitzcarraldo, an epic adventure-drama released in 1982, that sees the main character trying to build an opera house in the middle of a jungle. As a result, palm-tree-motif wallpaper adorns the walls and ceilings, complete with exotic flying birds.

This bold, heavily stylized theme continues throughout the bridge, with blue velvet used to upholster the ceiling, and a bright red U-shaped sofa, hemmed in by brass railings, located behind the two large-bolstered helm seats.

Both helm seats benefit from their own thruster and joystick controls, separated by a wide table partition in the center which can be used for the morning coffee.

PINK SHADOW is being exhibited by Damen Yachting at S05 (APPONTEMENT JULES SOCCAL).
