Viking’s Bold New 50 Convertible Set to Make its Debut at FLIBS 2025

Viking Yacht Company is unveiling four new 50-foot models, with the spotlight on the 50 Convertible, set to make its debut at the 2025 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on February 12.

Three other models, the Billfish (BF), Sport Coupe/Sport Tower (SC/ST), and Open Express (O), are set to follow the 50 Convertible. Pat Healey, Viking's President and CEO, confidently stated, "No one else in the industry can match our quality and versatility."

The Viking 50C is the third generation of this Convertible model, following the success of its predecessors. The first generation, launched in the 1990s, saw 142 units built, even during the challenging Luxury Tax period, making it one of Viking’s most successful models. The second generation, introduced in 2008, saw 42 builds, earning praise for its speed, stability, and power.

The Next Generation of Viking Yachts

The 50 Billfish will be the largest model in Viking’s Billfish series, which has delivered 85 boats since its inception in 2017, including from the popular Viking 46BF and Viking 38BF. The line, known for its sporty, easy-to-maintain designs, appeals to fish-focused owner-operators. Meanwhile, the Sport Coupe and Sport Tower cater to those who enjoy both cruising and fishing, offering a cockpit-focused layout with a three-sided glass enclosure and optional aft bulkhead.

The Open range, which includes the Viking 48C, features a wraparound windshield and a hardtop, providing direct command deck access from the cockpit and includes an optional Palm Beach Towers (PBT) tuna tower.

Design, Technology, and Performance

The 50 Convertible is a modern marvel, featuring a flush foredeck and modified upper chine for excellent spray deflection, ensuring a dry and comfortable ride. Her streamlined hull, deckhouse, and bridge are designed for both aesthetics and functionality, with recessed salon windows giving her a distinctive look.

On the flybridge, a walk-around center console integrates two 22-inch touchscreen Multifunction Displays (MFDs), while a drop-down electronics box tucks neatly into the fiberglass hardtop. The forward lounge includes armrests, drink holders, and storage, while padded bench seating on either side adds to the comfort. A refrigerated drink box is conveniently placed to starboard of the helm.

Viking Design Manager David Wilson comments, "Experience with previous models, feedback from owners, ocean testing, and the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics all contribute to the performance of this boat."

It's a never-ending design spiral of improvement...

Viking Design Manager David Wilson emphasized the role of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and real-world ocean testing in refining the yacht’s performance and efficiency. Viking utilizes resin-infused construction for the hull, tankage, and structural bulkheads, ensuring optimal strength-to-weight ratio. Carbon fiber and Light Resin Transfer Molding further reduce weight, while a vinylester/epoxy resin blend enhances durability.

Optimized for Fishing and Leisure

The 131-square-foot cockpit is built for anglers, featuring insulated fish boxes, a transom live well, and toe-kick space for added comfort. A mezzanine lounge seat includes freezer and cooler storage, while a tackle cabinet keeps gear organized. Recessed stainless steel cleats, corner hawsepipes, and a transom door with a lift gate simplify line handling.

Inside the sportsfisher boat, the salon is bright and open, with large windows and a horizontal grain walnut interior in high gloss or satin finishes. A raised dinette provides excellent visibility and storage for 7-foot rods, while an L-shaped lounge, walnut cocktail table, and 43-inch HD TV enhance relaxation.

Accommodation options cater to up to nine guests. The master stateroom, with a walkaround queen bed and ensuite head, offers a touch of luxury. The forward stateroom can feature either a queen bed or a crossover bunk arrangement. A second guest stateroom provides upper and lower bunks with private access to a shared head. Storage is plentiful, with generous compartments and hanging lockers throughout.

Built for Longevity and Customization

Viking has engineered the 50 Convertible for long-term durability, using composite seacocks to eliminate corrosion and reduce weight. A standard 21.5 kW generator provides reliable power, while dedicated seawater pumps supply the Seakeeper, AC/refrigeration, and live wells. Optional upgrades include ElectroSea Clearline, omni-directional sonar, ice and water makers, and a water purification system.

The engines are mounted on stringers reinforced with integrated aluminum, ensuring a solid and efficient installation. Atlantic Marine Electronics offers custom navigation, communication, and entertainment systems, while Palm Beach Towers provides a tournament-ready tuna tower.

The Viking 50 Convertible represents the brand’s legacy of excellence, offering a perfect balance of speed, luxury, and practicality. Whether for fishing, cruising, or sport, she stands as a testament to Viking’s ingenuity and craftsmanship.
