Dutch builder Amels had a double cause for celebration this week, its first launch of the year which was, in turn, the first Amels 200 to hit the water.
The 60m (197ft) superyacht Amels 200/01 is an evolution of the Amels 188 and bears the hallmark exterior design of Tim Heywood, with interior design coming from British compatriot Reymond Langton.
The Amels 200 has much in common with her predecessor, including naval architecture, high volume and hybrid electrical power technology, as well as a four-deck elevator and air-conditioned gym on the sun deck. However there are a number of enhancements, most notably larger aft decks and swim platform and full-height windows in the Owners Suite.
Other highlights include a main deck Owner’s suite with a 12 square-meter (130 sq ft.) folding balcony, a 36 square-meter (388 sq ft.) multifunctional sky lounge with bi-fold glass panel doors to the aft deck and a private VIP suite on the bridge deck. She also has strong eco-credentials, being built to IMO Tier III emission regulations.
Exterior Designer Tim Heywood explains the benefit of the increase in length from the 57.7m (189ft) Amels 188:
"The additional length invested into this design has only increased her elegance and sophisticated appearance, as well as elevating the functionality of her interior, which is illuminated by enlarged windows. The many winding surfaces allow sunlight and reflections to add to her magic, only possible by the sculptural forms and high gloss finish, achieved by her builders, who have invested so much time and effort into achieving perfection. The flowing lines of her multifaceted exterior are exactly as I imagined and the difficulties of her complex forms have been crafted with enormous care and talent."
Now out of the construction shed the 1,015 Gross Tonnage yacht is set to undergo final outfitting and commissioning over the next few months ahead of her upcoming summertime delivery.
The Amels 200 is part of its Limited Editions range, from which more than 40 yachts have been delivered since 2007.
The semi-custom built yacht series has proved popular as it offers a mix of custom and platform build techniques to reduce delivery time from years to as little as a few months.
The 200 arrives ahead of the Amels 60, design by Espen Oino, a very different style of yacht offering, perhaps, a glimpse at the next-generation of Damens. The 60 is under construction with hull number one due for launch in 2023.
